Plan Document Writer (Remote)



We are hiring 2 experienced Plan Document Writers to join a high-performing, collaborative team supporting medical benefit plan documentation for new implementations and renewals.

If you have direct experience drafting SPDs and SBCs within health insurance and thrive in a fast-paced, detail-driven environment — this role was built for you.


The Impact You’ll Make

  1. Draft, update, and publish medical benefit plan documents including:
  2. Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD)
  3. Summary of Benefits & Coverage (SBC)
  4. Benefit Plan Descriptions (BPD)
  5. Summary of Material Modifications (SMM)
  6. Amendments
  7. Evaluate existing plan documents and identify required updates for new and renewing groups
  8. Ensure documentation accurately reflects plan design and operational execution


Compliance & Research Leadership

  1. Serve as a subject matter expert on ERISA and federal benefits legislation
  2. Audit documents for legal accuracy and regulatory compliance
  3. Research complex benefit questions using internal and external sources
  4. Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times


Operational Excellence

  1. Manage strict turnaround times and SLAs
  2. Navigate advanced platforms including Salesforce, SmartSheets, and MS Office
  3. Maintain accurate documentation tracking across systems
  4. Support high-volume group renewals (especially during Q4 peak season)

  5. Oversee documentation for ~15 groups simultaneously

This role requires someone analytical, adaptable, and comfortable navigating complex, highly detailed processes independently.


Required Experience

  1. 3+ years of technical writing experience specifically within:
  2. Health Insurance
  3. Benefits Administration
  4. TPA environments
  5. Direct, hands-on experience drafting SPDs and SBCs
  6. Strong understanding of differences between:
  7. SPD
  8. SBC
  9. BPD
  10. SMM/SMR
  11. Amendments
  12. Knowledge of ERISA and federal benefit compliance standards
  13. Advanced MS Word (styles, formatting, templates)
  14. Experience with Salesforce, SmartSheets, Excel
  15. Ability to audit prior documents and identify discrepancies with 100% accuracy
  16. Adaptable and able to pivot quickly in changing benefit environments


Preferred Qualifications

  1. QSEHRA experience
  2. Medical terminology knowledge
  3. TPA or insurance tenure
  4. High-volume document management experience
  5. Strong audit and compliance mindset
  6. Analytical, “legal-style” writing background


Day-to-Day Snapshot

  1. Participate in new group implementations
  2. Evaluate and revise existing plan documents
  3. Identify missing documentation or compliance gaps
  4. Manage multiple active documents simultaneously (3–6 per group in Q4)
  5. Collaborate heavily with Implementation and Account Management teams
  6. Meet strict deadlines while maintaining absolute accuracy
  7. Monday–Friday schedule
  8. Remote eligible in: AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, NJ, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX
  9. Target start: ASAP
