Job Description:

Ascendant’s Next Ventures team is building three very different businesses in parallel. One turns your texting app into a way of deepening your connection with loved ones. Another is organizing a micro, real-world community for tech professionals. And the other is producing a novel way to learn about and enjoy gourmet foods.

Each venture requires a marketer with the dexterity to take on activities ranging from setting strategy, writing creative copy, shaping graphic design, recruiting and collaborating with other creative talent, and investing in paid media. This manager is to deliver solid campaign results, even if the outcome is learning what not to do next time. The role also involves sharing responsibility with the team’s lead for coordinating work and getting things done.

What you'll be doing:

  • Mobile app / texting user experience design
  • Collaborating with software developers
  • Email / SMS, social and paid search marketing
  • Membership community development and event planning
  • Email newsletter management, including writing short, engaging news stories
  • Writing about topics like food and self-improvement in a clever, marketing idiom one moment, then in a semi-technical way the next
  • Contributing to customer care / user support as well as conducting customer surveys
  • Co-leading an ever-shifting lineup of projects
  • Position title: Marketing Manager

What we’re looking for:

  • Resolve and versatility in the face of ambiguity and a lack of structure
  • A passionate writer who’s striving to get better at the craft
  • Leadership capabilities, including the confidence to give firm direction to service providers
  • Experience with some number of marketing disciplines, ranging from direct mail to Google Analytics implementation to organic content development for TikTok
  • Experience with or readiness to learn applications including Asana, Google Workspace tools, HubSpot and Shopify as well as creative work including identity design, photo and video production and editing, and web design
  • A full-time or part-to-full-time (20-30 hours) contributor (full-time students: Yes, consider applying.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation:

  • $40,000 - $60,000 budgeted compensation range, depending on experience
  • 10 days paid vacation + 10 paid company days off + 8 paid holidays
