Job Description:

I am sourcing candidates for a Senior PHP/WordPress Developer with strong backend expertise and some frontend experience. The focus is on extending WordPress Multisite as a CMS, working within a PHP 8 codebase, and integrating with various third-party APIs.

Core Responsibilities:

Backend Development:

  1. Work extensively with PHP 8 and WordPress Multisite, customizing and extending functionality using OOP principles and design patterns.
  2. Implement RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.
  3. Manage PHP dependencies with Composer.
  4. Ensure web security best practices are followed.
  5. Frontend Development (Less of a Focus but Still Important):
  6. Use TypeScript, React, jQuery, and Vue.js as needed.
  7. Build and maintain UI components, though the primary focus remains on backend work.

Collaboration & Development Process:

  1. Work closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to define, develop, and refine features.
  2. Review and provide feedback on GitHub pull requests.
  3. Guide projects from scoping to production deployment.
  4. Participate in unit and integration testing to ensure code quality.

DevOps & Infrastructure:

  1. Work with AWS (Lambda, SQS) to enhance functionality.
  2. Possibly contribute to a PHP monorepo environment (monorepo-builder).

Learning & Innovation:

  1. Keep up with new technologies and suggest improvements.
  2. Leverage generative AI tools for development efficiency.

Must-Haves (What Makes a Strong Candidate):

  1. Proven experience as a senior developer specializing in PHP and WordPress.
  2. Strong grasp of WordPress’s pub/sub model, hooks, and filters.
  3. Experience with Git and GitHub workflows for version control.
  4. Familiarity with automated testing.
  5. Strong written communication skills (likely for documentation, async collaboration, or remote work).

Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Skills):

  1. Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  2. Experience with Next.js.
  3. Familiarity with WP Engine hosting.
  4. Prior work in large PHP monorepos.
  5. Experience maintaining legacy codebases.
