Video Game Design & Coding Instructor (Part-Time)
Inspire the next generation of game creators!
We’re looking for a creative, tech-savvy instructor to teach kids how to design and code their own retro-style video games. Students will start by creating simple classics like Tetris and Adventure, then work their way up to designing a more complex game inspired by The Legend of Zelda.
You’ll guide them from idea to playable game, mixing coding, art, and game design in a fun, hands-on environment.
What You’ll Do:
- Teach kids the basics of coding & game development in an engaging, beginner-friendly way.
- Start with foundational retro games (Tetris, Adventure) and progress to larger projects (Zelda-style adventure game).
- Help students design characters, build levels, and add movement, physics, and effects.
- Introduce tools like Python/Pygame, Godot, GameMaker Studio, or Roblox Studio.
- Encourage creativity while teaching real programming concepts.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom where kids feel excited to learn.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in game development (professional or hobbyist).
- Comfortable with beginner-friendly programming tools and engines.
- Knowledge of retro game styles.
- Enjoy working with kids in a classroom or camp setting.
- Familiarity with Mac computers and relevant software.
- Great communicator who can make coding fun.
- Teaching experience is a plus, but not required.
