These coordinator positions will focus on supporting strategic statewide development of systems for implementation of mathematics instructional professional learning, tiered student intervention, and school improvement practices that improve student outcomes in mathematics. The Coordinator of Mathematics provides evidence-based and highly effective program and initiative development and implementation leadership support aligned to the Maryland College and Career Ready Mathematics Standards to accelerate student achievement across local education agencies (LEAs) and early learning environments. The position will work closely with LEA staff and early learning providers to build the capacity to develop, interpret, and implement best in class mathematics programs and initiatives, courses, instructional frameworks, curricula and assessments, and innovations to narrow and close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically disadvantaged students.
The Coordinator of Mathematics will support the Director of Mathematics to develop, deploy and facilitate, and assess the effectiveness of ongoing, high-quality professional learning and technical assistance provided by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). This position will also support the MSDE’s collaboration efforts with diverse communities and organizations (i.e., institutions of higher education, nonprofits; community-based partners; taskforces; etc.) to develop, implement, and analyze programs and strategies to scale students’ participation in STEM-aligned college and career readiness pathways, such as through dual enrollment, advanced placement, International Baccalaureate, and early college high school programs. The Coordinator of Mathematics will support MSDE’s efforts in implementing the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and its multiyear Strategic Plan.
Develops and implements evidence-based mathematics programs and initiatives, professional learning, and technical assistance, and provides content expertise and stakeholder engagement to accelerate student achievement.
Education: A Master’s degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate coursework in mathematics, STEM, education or a related area from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five years of administrative, instructional coaching, or teaching experience in, or affiliated with, mathematics and/or STEM programs in prekindergarten through 12 settings or related areas.

One year of teaching experience in a Mathematics or STEM Education Program.
