Organization Overview:

Houston Area Parkinson Society (HAPS) is a nonprofit organization that has served the Houston community since 1974 providing comprehensive services and innovative programs for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and their families. HAPS remains an independent nonprofit, not a local chapter of a national organization, and is recognized as a model for the quality, breadth, and scope of its services that fill critical gaps in care. As the only organization of its kind in the Houston area, HAPS has significant community impact.

HAPS exists to ensure that no one faces a Parkinson’s diagnosis alone – by using a whole-human approach to community building, we reduce the fear and isolation associated with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. This is accomplished through support services, education programs, and therapeutic exercise.

HAPS provides client-centered programs that empower families living with Parkinson’s. Through partnerships in and around our eight-county service area, HAPS offers weekly therapeutic exercise classes, monthly professionally led support groups, education programs, and social and enrichment activities. HAPS also provides case management, transportation, respite care, and financial assistance for those who qualify.
