Role: Frontend Lead Engineer

Location: Fully remote, must live in United States

Salary: $150,000-$180,000

Hours: M-F, with some flexibility

Interview process: 3 rounds. Some project assessment. Virtual

Key requirements:

  1. 7+ years of professional experience in frontend development.
  2. Strong expertise in Next.js and React, including related technologies (e.g., Redux, React Hooks, etc.).
  3. Prior experience in a lead or staff engineering role, ideally guiding frontend architecture or mentoring other engineers.
  4. Proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.


We are looking for an experienced Lead Frontend Engineer with a strong foundation in modern frontend technologies, including Next.js and React. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of professional experience in frontend development and bring prior lead or staff-level engineering experience. They should be capable of guiding technical direction, mentoring other developers, and delivering high-impact features in a fast paced, agile environment. Experience with Ruby on Rails is a plus but not mandatory.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable web applications using Next.js, React, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  2. Collaborate with backend engineers, designers, and product managers to implement user-facing features and ensure seamless integration with backend systems.
  3. Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.
  4. Ensure the performance, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility of web applications.
  5. Conduct code reviews, mentor junior developers, and provide feedback to improve code quality and maintain high standards.
  6. Stay up-to-date with the latest frontend technologies, tools, and best practices, bringing fresh ideas and solutions to the team.


Day-to-Day Duties:

  1. Building new features and enhancements on the frontend using Next.js and React.
  2. Ensuring high performance and responsiveness for web applications.
  3. Participating in agile ceremonies like daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  4. Collaborating with the backend team (possibly built on Rails) to ensure smooth API integration and data flow.
  5. Debugging and troubleshooting frontend issues, providing timely resolutions.
  6. Conducting peer reviews and working with junior team members to enhance their development skills.


Required Skills and Experience:

  1. 7+ years of professional experience in frontend development.
  2. Strong expertise in Next.js and React, including related technologies (e.g., Redux, React Hooks, etc.).
  3. Prior experience in a lead or staff engineering role, ideally guiding frontend architecture or mentoring other engineers.
  4. Proficiency in modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
  5. Experience working in fast-paced, agile environments, with a focus on delivering high-quality features.
  6. Familiarity with version control tools such as Git.
  7. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across teams.
  8. Experience with browser developer tools, debugging, and performance optimization techniques.


Nice to Have:

  1. Experience working with Ruby on Rails for backend integration or knowledge of its ecosystem.
  2. Familiarity with build tools such as Webpack, Babel, or similar.
  3. Understanding of responsive design and UX/UI principles.
  4. Exposure to testing frameworks like Jest, Cypress, or similar.
  5. Knowledge of CSS frameworks like TailwindCSS or styled-components.


Soft Skills:

  1. Strong attention to detail with a focus on delivering clean, efficient code.
  2. Ability to work independently and take ownership of frontend projects.
  3. Team-oriented and eager to collaborate with developers, designers, and product teams.
  4. Ability to mentor and guide junior developers, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
  5. Collaborating effectively with teams and stakeholders across multiple time zones to ensure alignment and smooth delivery.
  6. Architect reusable components and scalable layouts using Next.js routing and server-side rendering capabilities.
  7. Optimize frontend performance using Next.js features such as dynamic imports, incremental static regeneration (ISR), and image optimization.
