DESCRIPTION


Mendocino-Lake Community College District is currently accepting applications for a Foundation Development Coordinator to work in the Mendocino College Foundation Department.


This is a full-time, Classified position, 40 hours per week, 12 months a year.

The Mendocino College Foundation is a philanthropic auxiliary of Mendocino College, and an official 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The Foundation supports Mendocino College in educating leaders, fostering intellectual growth and enriching lives by creating opportunities to invest in a better future for our students and communities. Established in 1984 with the purpose of assisting students by providing scholarships, the Foundation has grown to more than 12 million in assets today. Scholarships remain the core way that the Foundation supports students, with more than $200,000 awarded each year to existing and incoming students. Since 2007 the Foundation has been administering the Adopt a Fifth Grader program, awarding the promise of a scholarship to fifth grade students in the College District, encouraging them to finish high school and enroll at Mendocino College. Through the various affiliates, or "Friends" groups, the Foundation conducts more targeted outreach and departmental support for areas like Nursing, Agriculture, Theater Arts, as well as the College's three Centers in Fort Bragg, Willits and Lakeport. The guiding vision of the Foundation is to be a major force in helping students turn their hopes and dreams into realities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Coordinator supports the Foundation's fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. This role involves outreach and stewardship of current and prospective donors, students, and outside organizations. Tasks include managing and updating databases, coordinating events, and assisting with marketing and communication strategies to enhance donor and alumni relations and community support. This individual reports to the Executive Director of the Foundation.

SALARY AND BENEFITS


Salary Range (31): The starting monthly salary range is $5,207- $5,467. There are six annual step movements; initial placement will be at step 1, unless approved by the Superintendent/President.

Benefits: With no monthly premium contribution from the employee, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes family medical, dental, vision, EAP benefits and employee life insurance. Additional voluntary life insurance is available for employee purchase. Benefits are effective the first of the month following hire date.


Holidays and Paid Time Off: The successful candidate will earn twelve (12) days of vacation and twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. Vacation leave increases with the length of service. There are twenty (20) paid holidays annually.


Retirement: This position is eligible for CalPERS Retirement.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES


The successful candidate will support student and institutional success by executing the following duties:


Fundraising and Donor Relations:

  1. Develops a comprehensive annual alumni and development fundraising plan.
  2. Successfully identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards unrestricted and restricted donations at all levels.
  3. Manages and updates donor databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  4. Assists in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, including annual fund drives, scholarship and Adopt a Fifth Grader fundraising.
  5. Coordinates employee giving program and related strategies.
  6. Prepares donor acknowledgment letters and reports.
  7. Conducts donor prospect research and analysis.

Event Coordination:

  1. Plans, coordinates, and executes special events such as fundraisers and alumni gatherings.
  2. Collaborates with volunteers, staff, and vendors to ensure successful event logistics.
  3. Develops event marketing materials and manages event-related communications.

Alumni Engagement:

  1. Develops and implements strategies to engage alumni and foster long-term relationships.
  2. Develops a portfolio of alumni stories to promote across website, print and social media.
  3. Coordinates alumni activities and initiatives, including reunions and networking events.
  4. Maintains and updates alumni databases and communication platforms.

Marketing and Communications:

  1. Collaborates with Foundation and College staff to develop and implement a proactive communication plan for alumni and donors.
  2. Creates and distributes marketing materials, including newsletters, brochures, and social media content.
  3. Assists in the development of the Foundation's gratitude report and other publications.
  4. Helps maintain the Foundation's website and social media presence.

Administrative Support:

  1. Provides administrative support to the Executive Director, other team members and the Board of Directors.
  2. Assists with grant writing and reporting as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS



Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including but not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB Test.


Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, geographic and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.

EDUCATION: AA/AS Required, BA/BS Preferred in a related field preferred


EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two years of experience in fundraising, event planning, or a related area


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE EQUIVALENCY: Experience and/or education of the same kind, level or amount as required in the minimum qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
