Compensation: $60,000 to $80,000 Annually + Bonus + Benefits

The Client

The client is a disruptive eLearning SaaS start-up serving universities seeking to scale professional development and career advancement resources for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty members, and academic leaders—all in one place. Their mission is to provide an equal opportunity for professionals at all educational levels across fields, cultures, and settings to develop the critical skill sets needed to survive and thrive during their academic careers and beyond. With 200+ expert-led courses across 30+ digital badge microcredentials, they integrate seamlessly into universities’ existing LMSs. Their curated library of end-to-end resources has been designed to meet evidence-based best practices in eLearning, resulting in curricula proven to increase scholarly productivity and positive career outcomes.


The Role

The client is seeking a full-time Email Marketing Specialist with experience in the higher education space to lead all aspects of their email marketing operations. This includes strategy, list segmentation, copywriting, visual layout, A/B testing, automation, and performance tracking—all while maintaining the tone and trust required to reach academics and university leaders. This position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).


Key Responsibilities

  1. Own the end-to-end email campaign lifecycle for the purpose of generating incoming sales leads: strategy, segmentation, copywriting, design, testing, optimization, and reporting.
  2. Design visually appealing and mobile-optimized emails (basic HTML/CSS or visual builders).
  3. Write high-converting, academically appropriate email copy for multiple higher ed personas.
  4. Build and manage email sequences for live online events, lead nurturing, drip campaigns, and newsletter engagement.
  5. Monitor performance metrics and continuously improve open rates, CTR, and conversion rates.
  6. Coordinate with the graphic designer when visual assets are needed.
  7. Collaborate with the COO, CEO, and lead generation support staff.
  8. Maintain compliance with GDPR, CAN-SPAM, and university email preferences.


Performance Goals

  1. Email Campaign Deployment Goals
  2. Strategically design and launch at least 3–5 email campaigns per month, tailored by audience segment.
  3. Create and manage at least 2 automated email workflows (e.g., event follow-up, onboarding series, re-engagement drip).
  4. Implement A/B testing for subject lines and CTA copy in all outbound campaigns.

  2. Open Rate: Maintain an average of 30–40%
  3. Click-Through Rate (CTR): Achieve 3–6% across campaigns
  4. Click-to-Open Rate (CTOR): Maintain 10–20%
  5. Unsubscribe Rate: Keep <0.3% per email
  6. Spam Complaint Rate: Keep <0.05%


  1. Email Conversion Outcome Goals
  2. Generate a minimum of 10 incoming sales leads per week by running effective email marketing campaigns.
  3. Drive 1–3% of total email recipients to schedule introductory Zoom calls with a sales representative.
  4. Convert 0.5–2% of recipients (from B2C-focused campaigns) into paid members.


Required Qualifications

  1. Native or fluent English proficiency.
  2. Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  3. 3+ years of hands-on email marketing experience with a focus on sales lead generation.
  4. Proven track record of:
  5. High open rates (30–40%)
  6. Low unsubscribe rates (<0.3%)
  7. Strong CTA engagement
  8. Mastery of:
  9. ActiveCampaign platform
  10. Google Analytics
  11. At least one email deliverability tool (ZeroBounce, NeverBounce, etc.)
  12. At least one CRM platform (Salesforce, Zoho, etc.)
  13. Strong understanding of persona-based marketing and complex customer journeys.
  14. Experience managing list segmentation and campaign sequencing.
  15. Experience writing clear, compelling copy tailored for professionals in higher education settings.
  16. Comfortable building emails from scratch and designing clean layouts.
  17. Personality: Self-starter and self-accountable, strong work ethic, teamwork skills, outcome-driven, creative problem-solver, reliable, and embraces what it takes to be able to work in a fast-paced and challenging start-up environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Existing connections within higher education.
  2. Experience with email deliverability platforms like ZeroBounce or NeverBounce.
  3. Familiarity with Qualtrics.
