Job Description:

We are a community college district comprised of two accredited colleges, Spokane Community College (SCC) and Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC). In addition to serving a large urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, the district provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square-mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties, as well as portions of Lincoln County.

Both colleges of CCS are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and governed by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.

About the Digital Content Specialist - Program Specialist 2

Under the general supervision of the District Communications Director, the Digital Content Specialist will create, edit and produce digital assets and content for Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) digital media platforms, including websites, social media and email marketing.

This position will work collaboratively with team members and staff in the CCS Marketing and Public Relations department ensuring digital assets are consistent with CCS brand and design standards and meet accessibility standards.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist team members with independent digital asset production and assist with implementing content updates to digital platforms including optimizing text, graphics and images for the web. Ensure digital content meets accessibility standards. *
  • Gather new and updated information from various departments throughout CCS for posting on CCS websites, both for the current and future websites (CCS, SCC, SFCC). Ensure the information is accurate and presented in a manner that is appropriate for CCS websites. *
  • Collaborate with the District Communications Director to execute time-sensitive updates to CCS digital platforms, including CCS websites. *
  • Collaborate with the Website Manager to help identify accessible, effective approaches to presenting digital content on CCS websites. *
  • Collaborate with web writers on updates and new pages for CCS websites, including optimizing graphics and images for the web. *
  • Utilize Google Analytics, Google Search Console or comparable tools, analyze data to inform search engine optimization (SEO) efforts. *
  • Collaborate with the broader communications team on ensuring department processes are adhered to for the creation of digital content. *
  • Execute requests, as assigned, in a manner that provides clarity and fosters long-term relationships. *
  • Clarify requirements and coordinate with team members on the best way to proceed with requests if needed. Identify any issues that arise with assigned requests and resolve them with team members in a timely manner with limited direction. *
  • Ensure teammates are updated on the status of assigned requests and update progress in CCS’s tracking systems. Coordinate with team members to ensure workflow, documentation, brand and design standards are upheld. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan; perform related duties as required. *

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in communications, digital design, website content management or relevant discipline OR an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Experience that shows progressive proficiency with the following concepts (and tools/standards):
    • Image editing processes and software (Adobe Suite)
    • Web design and web writing principles (UI/UX/SEO)
    • Web content management systems (CMS)
    • Basic web page coding (HTML/CSS)
    • Writing, editing and proofreading skills (Microsoft 365)
    • Accessibility standards for digital content (WCAG)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in content management systems, creating and editing digital content, and working as part of a team.
  • Experience working in higher education marketing and marketing or communications.
  • General knowledge of Community Colleges of Spokane, Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a semi-open office environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.
  • Work is sedentary.
  • Frequent use of computers and exposure to terminal screens.

  • Frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation.
  • Frequent oral and auditory communication with others.

Conditions of Employment

  • Full-time schedule (12 months, 40 hours a week).
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • 6-month probationary period.
  • May require local or regional travel.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Membership is optional.

Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; WA State Retirement Plan; vacation and sick leave begin to accrue at the rate of one (1) day per month, upon employment. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement.
