Job Description:

The Curriculum Developer designs training solutions and curriculum for our 100,000 Ace retail associates (i.e. red vested heroes). They will lead, consult, and develop larger, more complex, high profile behavioral-based curriculum projects with stakeholders throughout the organization with key areas of support including Store Systems and Operations, Merchandising and Business to Business.

The Curriculum Developer will design and create curriculum in multiple modalities that includes e-learning, virtual classroom training, and in-store training, that results in learning objectives that drive high performance, in delivering the Ace Helpful Promise.

This role defines learning objectives, designs comprehensive training solutions, identifies gaps, and evaluates and maintains curriculum. Project Management and time management are essential for this role.

The Curriculum Developer will also lead the development and maintenance of Ace's Retail People Strategy focusing on Learning Plans by Role, Leadership & Coaching and partner with Store Systems and Operations on training to support our People Management initiatives.

This position will require advanced knowledge and application of instructional design, curriculum development practices and project management to ensure Ace Hardware remains the training and performance development leader across the retail industry.

What you'll do:

  • Report Training Programs Effectiveness - Report to the Curriculum Development Manager to ensure Ace's Retail People Strategy is aligned with the overall retail training strategy including department goals and initiatives.
  • Leadership - The Curriculum Developer will be responsible to project manage and lead the team in the curriculum development for high profile/large strategic initiatives.
  • Subject Matter Expert - Lead for Ace's Retail People Strategy, responsible for leading the development and maintenance by the curriculum development team, focusing on Learning Plans by Role, Leadership & Coaching and supporting Store Systems and Operations with the People Management initiatives. They are responsible for demonstrating sound leadership, project management and curriculum development skills to ensure curriculum is aligned with the needs of the business and learners.
  • Consult with strategic business partners to ensure training solutions align with the needs of the business and learner.
  • Vendor Management - Work with development vendors to ensure training solutions are completed on time and within budget.
  • Project Management - Own and maintain multiple curriculum projects, each with their own project plan with curriculum developers, deliverables, milestones, and due dates.
  • Portfolio Management - Maintain and update curriculum content for instructor-led courses to achieve 100% alignment to Higher Ground.
  • Design/deliver instructor-led courses, electronic training sessions and curriculum presentations as assigned/needed.
  • Coaching - Coaches curriculum team to ensure development and design practices are varied and reflect current industry best practices.



What you will need:

Knowledge, Experience, and Competencies:

Experience and Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Curriculum, Learning & Development or related field
  • 7-10 years of curriculum development experience, retail industry experience a plus
  • Proficient in instructional design and curriculum development processes
  • Virtual training content development experience
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills
  • Micro learning development experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in sound assessment practices included performance-based assessment, job-embedded assessment, e-Learning assessment theory and formative/summative assessment theory
  • Participatory and distributed leadership style that builds strength, collective wisdom and servant-first principles when working across all stakeholder groups
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communications skills with retailers, vendor partners, field staff, and Corporate
  • Ability to develop and deliver instructor-led training, both in-person and virtual
  • Ability to effectively communicate project priorities and develop multiple curriculum projects simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills that demonstrate an ability to apply logical thinking to gather and analyze information, design and test solutions to problems, formulate plans and meet deadlines
  • Excellent software skills including e-learning technologies including Articulate, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, online meeting/training software including Zoom and Microsoft Teams
