Job Description:

CultureWorks is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Marketing and Communications Strategist. Reporting to the President, this position plays a critical role in designing and implementing strategies to ensure our region’s arts and culture community, and the community as a whole, is aware of the services and resources CultureWorks provides and the impacts we drive throughout the Richmond and Tri-Cities region. A successful candidate will build a consistent voice of CultureWorks that communicates CultureWorks’ vital role in optimizing the impact of arts and culture in our region and equitably highlights the incredible breadth and depth of the creative community throughout our region to encourage greater community participation in arts and culture.

Job Responsibilities:

· Marketing and Communications (90%):

o Develop and execute overall communications and marketing strategy for CultureWorks.

o Write and leverage media releases to foster earned media promoting CultureWorks, its programs, and the impact of arts and culture in our region.

o Manage the CultureWorks and artoberVA social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Youtube). Respond to incoming questions and develop a monthly social media plan.

o Maintain the CultureWorks website by refreshing it with new blog content, imagery, resources, sponsor logos, etc.

o Collaborate with team members, local artists, and organizations to develop a monthly spotlight post for the website and social media.

o Maintain and manage mailing lists within Mailchimp

  • Execute weekly newsletters highlighting upcoming events, discounts to regional arts and culture events, and other news. Select and include highlights from the arts and culture calendar.

o Create and execute strategy for CultureWorks Arts & Culture Calendar to make the calendar the go-to calendar for the Richmond & Tri-Cities region, and manage the calendar daily, including:

  • Review of pending events and user requests posted to the calendar; adding information from public sources to ensure they are as complete as possible
  • Coordinate automated data feeds
  • Field inquiries and user issues entering events and/or maintaining organization/artist and place pages.
  • Manage sponsor and other paid benefits, such as featured events, widgets, and channels.
  • Liaison with Localist (calendar platform vendor) for technical support.

o Supporting Community Engagement Strategist with artoberVA – a month-long celebration of arts and culture each October.

  • Duties include: assisting with advertising and promotion, e-communications, social media posts and sharing, brainstorming, tabling at events, helping with event execution, managing the transition of the CultureWorks calendar to become an artoberVA calendar, etc.

o Design and send temperature check surveys post-meetings and post-programs and compile results.

o Occasional management and execution of events such as light receptions for 50+ people (2-3 per year)

· Office Administration (10%)

o Carry out weekly process to send financial documents (gifts received, bills received) to external bookkeeping firm and ensure timely processing. Handle occasional requests of information from the bookkeeping firm.

o Managing videoconferencing when CultureWorks hosts virtual meetings

o Coordinate board member activities including quarterly full board meetings, and other ad hoc meetings; ordering catering, printing agendas, etc.

o Assist with coordinating quarterly networking events and happy hours

o All staff share occasional office cleaning responsibilities

o Liaison with technology vendors (IT support, office equipment)

o Other duties as assigned

Skills Required:

  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to manage work schedule, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of AP writing style and English grammar.
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of social media, communications, marketing, and brand strategy with experience developing engaging social media content and campaigns to include graphics, attention-getting captions, and reels.
  • Excellent computer/digital skills. Experience with SquareSpace, Zoom Pro, MS Office, Google Forms/Sheets, online calendar platforms, Mail Chimp, and Canva preferred.
  • Able to meet physical requirements of leading in person group discussions and community arts events, which can include setting up folding tables and carrying signs and boxes weighing up to 20 lbs.

Other Qualifications:

  • College degree in Mass Communications, Marketing or English or equivalent work experience relevant to the mission of CultureWorks as described above.
  • 3-5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Passion for elevating arts and culture and promoting cultural equity in the Region
  • Willingness to embrace and learn from constructive feedback.
  • Able to work effectively in a professional environment
  • Able to be an enthusiastic, positive representative of CultureWorks

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
