Visit Napa Valley develops and implements marketing programs aimed at targeted consumer segments and works to promote leisure travel, business travel, spending, and overnight stays in the Napa Valley.

 

Who We Are Looking For:

We are seeking a skilled, seasoned communications professional to support all stakeholder communications, including lifestyle public relations efforts.

 

The ideal candidate is a communications expert; a self-starter with a curious and service-oriented mind-set; is organized and detail-oriented; and has a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. The candidate has mature interpersonal skills and an affinity for working in team environments. This person is energetic and outgoing; a positive team player; a creative thinker; a problem solver; and has a flexible attitude with the capacity to expand responsibilities and grow with the organization. A self-starter mindset with a can-do attitude and mastery of storytelling and writing is critical for success in this role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining a streamlined content calendar that serves as the basis of all brand communications.
  • Writing, editing, and publishing content pieces, in brand tone personality, including content for blog, website pages, emailed marketing campaigns, promotional/marketing materials, and all newsletters which include a combination of consumer and industry audiences.
  • Distilling complex concepts and industry-specific language into content that is relatable and understandable by audience.
  • Exercising creativity, ensuring that the volumes of existing content be parlayed across channels.
  • Identifying gaps in content and recommending new topics.
  • Proofreading and editing according to brand guidelines.
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders and counterparts to ensure alignment on strategy and consistency in messaging, branding, and style.
  • Managing and completing work on time for multiple content writing projects.
  • Curating content from stakeholders on a quarterly timeline.
  • Addressing media queries and submission requests from industry associations such as SF Travel, Visit California, Brand USA, Great Wine Capitals Network, etc.
  • Maintaining excellent working relationships with database of tourism/hospitality PR agencies, frequently serving the client accounts of Visit Napa Valley partners.
  • Maintaining a high awareness of organizational activity and new and emerging trends and topics to nimbly provide brand communications.
  • Assess and monitoring the reputational strength of the Napa Valley destination.
  • Managing a standardized evergreen Visit Napa Valley press kit, both digital and print, based on audience (b2b, consumer lifestyle, public affairs, etc.).
  • Maintaining open lines of communication and positive relationships with local and regional journalists/press.
  • Drafting and pitching press-relevant story angles to media.
  • Drafting and issuing medial bulletins.
  • Developing media/journalist itineraries and serving as the main contact for press.
  • Supporting the communications strategy for community relations, including messaging such emergency response protocols, FAQs, etc.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a full-time communications role within a professional business setting.
  • bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a closely related field preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Strong knowledge of AP style.
  • Very strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint, along with Canva, Adobe, or other such applications.
  • Experience with destination marketing organizations or other industry association preferred.
  • Experience with Napa Valley as well as the wine, tourism, and hospitality industries, singularly or any combination thereof preferred.
  • An excellent track record of building relationships with internal/external stakeholders and media/press, demonstrating the ability to earn trust across a range of stakeholders and teams.
  • Familiarity and on-going understanding of trends in travel, wine, hospitality, and Napa Valley.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to process information from various inputs and synthesize implications in order to distill succinct messaging and deliver understandable and digestible information for audiences.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and meticulous attention to proper grammar with great care in writing in the approved house style.
  • Ability to adjust tone based on audiences.
  • Ease with phone and virtual meetings as well as presenting in front of small groups/audiences.
  • Polished presentation skills, both in a speaking role and in a production role, with the ability to create/assemble/convey linear thoughts into key messages delivered verbally and/or via PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability in project planning, process management, time management.

 

Additional Qualities/Capabilities for Success in This Role:

  • Familiarity with and passion for Napa Valley as well as the wine, tourism, and hospitality industries, singularly or any combination thereof.
  • Familiarity with representing a luxury brand(s).
  • Being a proactive information-gatherer and a source of information as well as a connector – connecting information across all touchpoints as applicable.
  • Must thrive within industry-association environment – as in servicing an industry with multiple verticals versus a more traditional, singularly-focused CPG/brand environment.
  • Convey messages in a way that embodies passion for the destination so as to instill that same inspiration/motivation with audiences.
  • Ability to pivot within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A self-starter with an ability to anticipate and proactively accomplish tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Tech-savvy.

  • Must be able to communicate with coworkers at various levels.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle for local travel within Napa Valley.
