Job Description:

The Nikkei Heritage Association of Washington (NHAW), doing business as the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW), is seeking an assistant to work with the Omoide program coordinator to provide administrative and organizational support for Omoide VII as an independent contractor between early-to-mid March and June 30th, 2024. The desired candidate possesses skills relating to administrative work including scheduling, emailing, communications, and organization. This position is remote and requires consistent established communication with the coordinator, who the assistant will report to.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage professional and personal scheduling for duties related to the writing of Omoide VII, including agendas, mail, email, phone calls, workflow management, and other related logistics.
  • Coordinate scheduling and calendar management, as well as content and flow of information for the Omoide program coordinator.
  • Manage logistics and activities relating to travel for Omoide VII stories, including accommodations, transportation, and meals.
  • Manage recording and note taking for the Omoide program coordinator during meetings with potential storytellers for Omoide VII.
  • Provide administrative and office support, such as typing, dictation, spreadsheet creation, and contacts database management.
  • Maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality with all materials.

Schedule & Benefits

  • Part time remote work, up to 10 hours per week. May include evenings and weekends.
  • Hourly wage of $19.97; paid twice per month.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Comfortable working as part of a team with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • Must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • Four or more years of experience in an administrative role reporting directly to upper management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and an ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with office productivity tools and an aptitude for learning new software and systems.
  • Flexible team player, willing to adapt to changes and unafraid of challenges.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information related to the organization and the program.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in developing internal processes and filing systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office/Google Office suite; especially Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets & Google Forms.
  • Data management skills are a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Customer-service in an educational organization.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $19.97 per hour
