The Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown is looking for a Labor Relations Manager who fully embodies our values, shares a passion for excellence, and infuses enthusiasm into everything they do. As Labor Relations Manager, you will be accountable for shaping the client experience by providing exceptional service in support of our world-renowned hotel. This position reports to the Director of People and Culture.

Basic Purpose

The Labor Relations Manager is responsible for ensuring adherence and compliance with labor contracts, employee policies, and state & federal laws to manage labor and departmental relations on behalf of Four Seasons New York Downtown.

The role requires significant, broad, and deep knowledge of the CBA(s), applicable federal and state law, regulatory compliance as well as best practices for managing employee and labor relations issues. The Labor Relations Manager is an expert in diplomacy, conflict resolution as well as time management. Is experienced with managing complex investigations and in providing guidance to managers, department heads and leadership.

The Labor Relations Manager, is a Department Head position and reports to the Director of People & Culture.

Essential Functions
 

  • Works in a collaborative manner with employees, delegates, managers and People & Culture on labor and employee relations and employment law implications relating to individual issues or courses of action, with an emphasis on the union-represented employees.
  • Responsible for administering and interpreting collective bargaining agreements and employee policies for the property; including but not limited to managing individuals engaged in local negotiations, leading or participating in labor-management meetings, assessing/revising/publishing/training employee and labor relations best practices and processes as needed, conferring with leadership as necessary.
  • Prepares and maintains weekly Shop Steward meeting agenda. Obtains necessary information and attendance of Managers involved.
  • Facilitates on-going communication and working relationships with employee organization representatives and coordinates and facilitates local Labor Management Meetings.
  • Manages employee relations matters to ensure that confidential personnel information, organization processes and procedures meet internal and external audit requirements.
  • Works with the Director of People & Culture and Senior Leadership to administer, follow-up and provide support to create solutions-based strategies to address organizational risks or culture.
  • Establishes credibility and is viewed as a resource throughout the organization by problem solving and coaching techniques in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement; recommends and leads accountability strategies.
  • Collaborates with Director of People & Culture on initiatives and processes focused on employee retention by promoting an elevated level of employee engagement in alignment with Four Seasons’ culture.
  • Conducts sensitive meetings with individuals and teams about their rights, options, and resources and in conjunction with leadership determines appropriate resolution pathways and alternative resolution. Regularly consults with the Director of People and Culture and keeps them informed of complaints.
  • Collects and analyzes annual risk and vulnerability assessment data to identify trends, recommend direction, and provide guidance needed to adjust unfavorable trends while meeting the needs of the organization.
  • Partners with Legal and Senior Leadership to design, cascade and promote and train on standardized processes, templates, tools and/or technologies to managing employee and labor relations, corrective action administration and escalated issue resolution protocols.
  • Assists in the readiness for arbitration, including documentation and witness preparation.
  • Manages discipline processes which includes issuing recommendations, providing critical feedback, assistance in preparing written documentation and administering corrective action.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.
     

Knowledge & Skills
 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience: 3+ years’ experience working in unionized environments, with specific emphasis on labor relations.
     

Skills & Abilities
 

  • Advanced knowledge of Federal and State employment and Labor Law compliance and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations.
  • Ability to analyze and draft proposals for negotiations, settlements, other employment agreements.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in writing concise, clear, relevant, and persuasive documents, including correspondence, case analyses, settlement agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations and individuals effectively.
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Outlook, Power Point etc)
     

Salary Range: $110,000- $119,000
