Job Description:


The RPG Developer III is a key player in our IT department, handling various tasks related to the company's tech operations. This role, with minimal supervision, focuses on designing, maintaining, and implementing internal applications using Websmart, RPG (all levels), and CL/CLLE on an IBMi platform. The RPG Developer III also works closely with business partners, analysts, and peers to document requirements, troubleshoot issues, and understand enhancement requests, converting these into technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Software Development: Analyze, design, develop, test, and maintain in-house software applications for existing systems using Websmart (PML, HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, CSS), RPG (all versions), and CLLE on an IBM System i platform.
  2. Project Collaboration: Work on large-scale projects, collaborating with users, Business Analysts, and other IT team members to develop technical specifications that detail the impact of proposed changes on all applications, systems, and databases.
  3. Technical Implementation: Create and utilize binding directories, binder source, prototypes, prototype interfaces, sub-procedures, stored procedures, and service programs.
  4. Problem Solving: Apply knowledge of data-centric architecture, design, programming, and performance to update programs and resolve issues.
  5. Project Management: Assist in managing projects using project management and change management software tools.
  6. Support and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with the Support Desk, Training, and business partners to troubleshoot and resolve application system errors.
  7. Technology Evaluation: Identify and explore new and evolving technologies; assess their potential impact on the business and provide insights and recommendations to management.
  8. Team Collaboration: Demonstrate a high level of commitment and accountability to the business, focusing on quality and customer service. Work effectively in a team environment and communicate positively with team members, peers, customers, and vendors.
  9. Project Feedback: Provide time tracking and project feedback data to the Project Management Office and management.
  10. Process Improvement: Lead, plan, and implement departmental projects that involve IT process improvements.
  11. Mentorship: Act as a subject matter expert, answering questions from less experienced teammates and business partners. Support new hire training, cross-train, mentor, and work closely with less experienced employees.
  12. Documentation: Participate in creating training materials and job aids, as well as documentation for new rollouts or updates. Share application knowledge throughout the team by conducting technical research and analysis and sharing findings and possible solutions.
  13. Quality Assurance: Review the output of junior-level teammates and provide assessments and recommendations to management.
  14. Template Creation: Develop templates and models for existing and new processes, modules, or coding techniques.
  15. Special Projects: Provide analysis and work on special initiatives and projects assigned by management.
  16. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Education: High school diploma preferred.
  2. Experience: At least five years of hands-on RPG programming and development experience on multiple high-complexity projects, preferably in financial services or mortgage servicing industries.
  3. Technical Skills:
  4. Proficiency in all aspects and versions of RPG and CL on the IBMi.
  5. Experience with binding directories, binder source, prototypes, sub-procedures, appropriate activation group usage, and service programs.
  6. Knowledge of DB2 native commands, security and access, SQL, SEQUEL, DDM, data-centric architecture, design, and performance tuning.
  7. Familiarity with embedded SQL, stored procedures, web services, and APIs.
  8. General knowledge of FTP, SFTP, and XML.
  9. General knowledge of Websmart, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, jQuery, and Bootstrap.
  10. Soft Skills: Highly detail-oriented and organized, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment, with a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness. Critical thinking skills, including the ability to evaluate facts and data to draw conclusions and determine the downstream impact of decisions and associated risks.
