We are looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In this role, you will integrate security best practices and automation into CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure. You will work within a large-scale AWS environment that powers big data systems, web applications, and reporting platforms while ensuring the security and compliance of critical healthcare systems.

Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for application and infrastructure delivery.

Integrate security tools and practices (SAST, DAST, SCA) across the entire software development lifecycle.

Manage and secure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and Terragrunt).

Implement and maintain security for containerized applications using Docker.

Collaborate with development teams (Java, Python, Django) to identify and resolve security vulnerabilities in code and dependencies.

Automate monitoring, logging, and incident response processes within AWS environments.

Ensure systems comply with federal standards such as FISMA, NIST, and CMS-specific security requirements.

Support and secure data platforms, including Databricks and Redshift.

Partner with cross-functional teams to promote a strong culture of security awareness and best practices.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must be eligible to pass a Public Trust clearance through the U.S. Federal Government. This requires either U.S. citizenship or eligibility through the Foreign National Government System, including residency in the U.S. for at least 3 of the past 5 years, a valid passport, and proper visa/work authorization.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. In place of a degree, additional relevant professional experience may be considered.

8+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer.

Proven background in DevSecOps, DevOps, or Security Engineering roles.

Strong hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud security practices.

Expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools, especially Terraform and Terragrunt.

Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitHub Actions.

Solid understanding of containerization and Docker security.

Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder with the ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience supporting CMS or other federal agencies.

Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as FISMA and NIST.

Experience with build tools like Maven.

Knowledge of data platforms such as Databricks and Redshift.

Experience securing applications built with frameworks like Django.

Familiarity with tools such as Chompy.

Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Security – Specialty, CISSP, GSEC).

Experience managing and scaling clusters (Redshift, Databricks, Hadoop).

Hands-on experience with DevSecOps tools, automation, and security scanning solutions (e.g., Nessus, Burp Suite, OWASP tools).

Strong knowledge of AWS security best practices, including IAM roles, policies, and network security.

Working Environment:

This is a remote role aligned with Eastern Time Zone working hours (typically 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM), ensuring collaboration with government stakeholders.

Occasional travel may be required for training or project meetings, estimated at less than 5% annually.
