The Challenge
We are looking for a senior engineer to join our Roadway Design team that produces and reviews roadway design plans, lighting, and electrical plans, and provides technical expertise to internal and external partners.
In this role, you will:
- Provide technology and design support to NCDOT staff in technical Units/Divisions and private engineering firms relating to roadway design plan preparations.
- Provide business support to our Roadway Design Unit.
- Troubleshoot and respond to questions from NCDOT staff and private engineering firms relating to the use of MicroStation, GeoPak, Corridor Modeling, and Open Roads Technology (ORD), and other software used in plan production.
- Develop and maintain roadway design ORD workspace standards and coordinate with other technical units and Information Technology to ensure a holistic approach to ORD implementation.
- Develop training materials associated with the use of software used by engineers in preparing and reviewing roadway design plans.
- Develop and deliver presentations and training to users in a classroom or online setting.
- Assist in training junior engineers and Transportation Engineering Associates to develop their knowledge of roadway design and the design software platforms.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, especially relating to highway design, AASHTO guidelines, and NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Experience producing engineered design plans and construction estimates for all stages of the project development process.
- Experience using Bentley’s OpenRoads Designer software and ORD workspaces.
- Demonstrated ability in preparing technical training documentation and presentations and communicating information in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
- Demonstrated ability in training junior engineers and Transportation Engineering Associates.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, and
- 4+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Note
- We may require you to be registered as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
