Job Description

The Manager of Web Experience & Optimization is responsible for leading the strategy, user experience, and continuous improvement of the ODUGlobal website. Acting as the product owner, this role sets priorities and guides initiatives that support enrollment goals while strengthening the university’s online presence.

This position is part of the Web Innovation & Strategy leadership team and works closely with the Executive Director of Web Innovation & Strategy to move forward important projects that enhance the website and support university objectives.

The role collaborates with teams across the university and with external vendors to manage web projects, improve site content and performance, and ensure the website remains accessible, effective, and focused on user needs. The manager also provides leadership and support to staff while using analytics, research, and user feedback to guide decisions and drive continuous improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree in User Experience (UX), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Technology, Information Systems, Digital Marketing, Communications, Web Development, or a related field is required. A bachelor’s degree in one of these areas combined with progressively responsible professional experience equivalent to a master’s degree may also be considered.

Strong knowledge of communications, marketing, and branding principles.

Strong understanding of customer service practices, including identifying user needs and effectively communicating solutions.

Working knowledge of web standards, best practices, accessibility requirements, and user interface and user experience design.

Working knowledge of web development technologies, authoring tools, and content management systems.

Working knowledge of graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite.

Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading.

Proven ability to work effectively with diverse users and stakeholders.

Ability to set and communicate deadlines clearly.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Ability to provide technical and project leadership to team members.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Ability to provide direction and oversight to team members.

Experience writing, managing, or overseeing website content.

Experience in communications and marketing.

Experience working with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Experience maintaining and overseeing websites.

Experience structuring, developing, and implementing interactive websites.

Experience leading and developing department staff.

Experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting staff development.

Additional Considerations

Strong understanding of internet programming languages including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and PHP.

Experience managing website content within higher education environments.

Experience managing website content using a content management system (CMS).

Professional experience creating or writing original web content.

Experience managing digital photography and other digital assets.

Knowledge of metadata management, especially related to digital photography and assets.

Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.

Supervisory experience in a technical environment, including staff performance management.
