Location: Primarily Remote (Occasional onsite meetings – approx. 1 day per month)
Job Type: 3 Month Contract-to-Hire (Estimated Conversion Date 7/2)
Contract Rate: $45-50/hour W-2
Conversion Salary: $90,000 to $100,000
Position Overview
Robert Half is seeking an experienced IT Systems Engineer to join a growing infrastructure team in a contract-to-hire capacity. This role is primarily remote with occasional onsite meetings (estimated one day per month). The IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. This position plays a key role in maintaining mission-critical systems, leading infrastructure initiatives, and ensuring operational stability and security. Participation in a rotating on-call schedule is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, and support physical server environments (Dell PowerEdge preferred) and virtualization platforms such as VMware ESXi/vCenter
- Design and administer Microsoft 365 and Azure services including Azure AD, Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint Online
- Manage enterprise storage and data protection solutions (EMC, Veeam, Zerto)
- Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments, including high-availability configurations (AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering)
- Apply firmware, OS, and application patches using centralized management tools
- Maintain disaster recovery and business continuity solutions; monitor and validate backup success and RPO compliance
- Automate system administration tasks using PowerShell or infrastructure-as-code tools
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and procedures
- Provide escalated technical support for infrastructure and endpoint issues
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure adherence to security policies and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Strong experience with Windows Server and client operating systems
- Expertise in VMware virtualization technologies
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 and Azure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
- Experience managing Active Directory and Azure AD
- Microsoft and/or VMware certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365, Windows Server, VCP) preferred
Additional Requirements
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation (approximately 7 weeks per year)
