Company Description

We’re representing a venture-backed AI company building a global product network that enables governments and enterprises to create a more resilient, secure, and transparent global trade ecosystem. Their platform combines large-scale data, AI systems, and cloud-native infrastructure to power mission-critical workflows across commercial and government environments.

As the company scales, developer productivity and platform reliability are strategic priorities. The Developer Experience team plays a central role in ensuring engineers can move quickly, build confidently, and ship reliably across a complex, multi-cloud environment.

What You Will Do

As a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience, you will own and evolve the infrastructure and tooling that powers the engineering organization’s daily workflows—from cloning the monorepo to deploying to production.

You will:

  1. Optimize build performance and CI/CD pipelines, reducing build times and improving reliability.
  2. Design and implement improvements to pre-commit checks, PR workflows, and code review processes.
  3. Architect and build internal tooling, CLIs, and automation that streamline developer workflows.
  4. Design patterns and abstractions that work consistently across multi-cloud environments, including deployments with heightened security constraints.
  5. Improve local development environments to enable fast iteration with minimal friction.
  6. Instrument and monitor developer workflows to identify bottlenecks and drive measurable improvements.
  7. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to understand pain points and translate them into platform capabilities.
  8. Contribute to the evolution of monorepo strategy, including dependency management, testing patterns, and code organization.
  9. Evaluate and integrate new technologies that improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.

Success in this role means faster feedback loops, higher build reliability, and engineers who spend more time solving customer problems rather than fighting infrastructure.

Ideal Background

The ideal candidate blends strong software engineering fundamentals with deep infrastructure and platform experience, and has genuine empathy for developers.

  1. 5+ years of experience across software engineering and infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps.
  2. Strong architectural skills—able to design robust systems beyond simple automation scripts.
  3. Deep experience with CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, Buildkite, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab CI).
  4. Proficiency in Golang and/or Python for tooling and automation development.
  5. Experience working within large-scale monorepos and understanding their operational challenges.
  6. Production experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native patterns.
  7. Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  8. Deep understanding of build systems, dependency management, and performance optimization strategies.
  9. Strong debugging skills across application and infrastructure layers.
  10. Clear written and verbal communication skills with cross-team collaboration experience.
  11. High ownership and ability to operate independently in evolving environments.

Preferred

  1. Experience with Buildkite specifically.
  2. Familiarity with GitHub Enterprise Cloud administration and GitHub Apps.
  3. Experience implementing build caching strategies (remote caching, incremental builds).
  4. Experience measuring and improving developer productivity metrics.
  5. Experience designing tooling across multiple cloud providers or isolated environments.
  6. Understanding of software supply chain security and secure CI/CD practices.

Compensation and Benefits and Other Things

  1. Salary: $170,000 – $220,000 USD base, depending on experience.
  2. Equity: Competitive equity grants included.
  3. Bonus: Discretionary or variable compensation depending on role.
  4. Work Model: Remote or based in New York or San Francisco, with occasional travel as needed.

Benefits include:

  1. Flexible Time Off (FTO)
  2. Paid parental leave (up to 26 weeks for birthing parents)
  3. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage (including 100% employer-paid HDHP option with HSA contribution)
  4. Life, disability, and AD&D insurance
  5. 401(k) retirement savings program
  6. Commuter benefits
  7. Wellness benefits (including Calm subscription)
  8. Pet insurance and telehealth support
  9. Employee Assistance Program
  10. Dependent Care FSA

Why This Role Matters:

Developer productivity is a strategic multiplier for the company. This role directly impacts engineering velocity, system reliability, and the ability to operate across complex commercial and government environments with confidence.

Equal Opportunity:

The company is committed to building an inclusive workplace. Employment decisions are based on qualifications and business needs without regard to protected characteristics. Discrimination and harassment of any kind are prohibited.
