Longform Content Writer

Description Summary: Longform content writers at KaTom are a key part of our site content workflow. Members of this team are responsible for crafting buying guides, use and maintenance advice, case studies, human interest stories, and other written pieces. This work is created using SEO best practices, the AP Stylebook, and a house style guide. It will require outreach via email and occasional phone or in-person interviews to enhance topics with expert knowledge and attributed quotes. This position requires daily use of WordPress, an in-house content management system, and an online project management system, as well as Outlook and Word. Longform content writers are expected to work collaboratively and execute their projects with attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at our office in Kodak, Tenn.
Responsibilities
General:
- Apply AP Stylebook and house style guide rules to content
- Apply SEO best practices guidance provided by company and advisers
- Apply basic HTML knowledge to format pieces for audience engagement
- Complete tasks assigned through project management system within deadlines
- Adhere to established project workflows and expectations for style, formatting, and publishing
- Work within company's content management system to upload and manage projects
- Participate in collaborative discussions with three written content teams (product, longform, and editorial)
- Contribute to the ongoing development of house style guide
- Work intensively in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Develop excellent working relationships with other members of content teams
- Requires regular and predictable attendance
- All other duties as assigned
Technical Content:
- Create unique and informative longform content such as buying guides, use and maintenance advice, case studies, and industry information pieces
- Complete optimized website content, educating customers about products and supporting online and phone sales
- Actively participate in regular on-site and occasional off-site, multi-day trainings, engaging in conversations and taking notes
- Implement information gained from trainings in content
- In collaboration with other writers and with direction from content manager, propose article topics based on industry knowledge information from trainings and foodservice news
- Use keyword development tools in brainstorming topics and to establish target keywords for each article
- Participate in peer editing of longform content to ensure style, structure, and accuracy of all work meets expectations
- Apply feedback gained during the editing process to revise work
- Upload content using WordPress and our in-house content management system, ensuring all work is formatted and published correctly
- Check published work for any errors and correct errors if found
- Use available resources (company experts, industry contacts, and vendor websites) to gain understanding of products and categories to ensure accuracy of content
- Stay informed about new and established concepts in foodservice, monitoring for potential topics
- Research topics as assigned, including human interest stories, news and trends, and other industry topics, occasionally through outreach to business owners and industry professionals via email and phone
- Collaborate with designers on creation of graphics for articles
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills & abilities)

- Education and/or experience: Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or a related field, with at least 2 years of professional editorial experience or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent by management
- Firm grasp of AP Stylebook precepts
- Flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing requirements of SEO
- Willingness to learn and implement basic HTML, if not already familiar
- Interest in learning and applying knowledge in work
- Advanced computer skills, including in use of Microsoft suite and internet navigation
- High level of organizational skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable performing email outreach and conducting interviews
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
