Job Summary

The food technologist is responsible for development of new products and processes to support Sunderstorm’s business objectives. Projects will primarily focus on confectionery medium of delivery and will range from gummy to chocolate. They need to have a strong confectionary science background, excellent problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, a team-oriented mentality, be self-motivated, results-oriented, and resourceful.

Essential Task, Duties and Responsibilities

● Apply innovative principles to product development with a focus on positive sensorial characteristics

· Support the R&D team in attaining short- and long-term product development goals, adapting to evolving scientific priorities

· Conduct research and complex experiments that translate into marketable products, processes, systems and further develops existing technology; analyze results and provide oversight for interpretation of completed trial results to determine next steps.

· Create and managed research & development timelines and templates, capturing key milestones and deliverables amongst the cross-functional team to aid in commercialization of new innovation

● Prep, cook and package all samples

● Operate different equipments including but not limited to, coater, cooker, depositor and paneer

● Dismantle equipments for cleaning and sanitizing

● Document usage and waste per company policies

● Execute all aspects of formulation from benchtop to production scale

● Responsible for translating ingredient specifications for intended functions

● Input on product development plans, timeline and budget requirements

● Author technical reports, surveys, SOPs and compounding sheets

● Insulate project details within the confine of this department and pertinent members of the company

● Understand ingredient interactions and adverse effects on product stability

● Seek and apply new technologies to enhance competitive advantage

● Continuously improve current formulations based on consumer data

● Interpret data from surveys to refine formulations

● Make appropriate recommendations through valid conclusions from research

● Adherence to compliance including but not limited to GMP, HACCP, company policies and federal and state laws

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

● Must be age 21 or over - California residency with valid ID is required

● Bachelor's degree in Food/Confectionery Science or related field

● Experience working in confectionery

● Experience being a part of focus groups for product launches.

● 1+ years of experience researching, developing, and creating new products strongly preferred.

● Must have cooking experience

● Great communication skills, positive attitude, trustworthy, dependable, accountable for own actions, motivating team members, able to delegate minor tasks, and able to receive constructive criticism.

● Must be able to time manage, multitask, organize, attention to details, and interpersonal skills.

● Attention to details, good attitude, and dependability.

● Ability to stand for 8 hours, leaning over and lifting bins, must be able to lift up to 50lbs.Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended period of time
