About the Role

QBS Learning is seeking experienced ELA Content Writers with a strong background in decodable passage writing for Grades K–4. This role requires hands-on experience in phonics-based curriculum development and a solid understanding of California State Standards.

Decodable writing experience is mandatory for this role. Candidates without direct experience in decodables will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

1. Write high-quality decodable passages aligned to phonics progression for Grades K–4.
2. Develop content that supports early literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension.
3. Ensure strict adherence to phonics rules and decodable constraints.
4. Align all content to California ELA Standards.
5. Collaborate with editors and instructional designers to refine content based on feedback.
6. Follow provided scope, sequence, and style guidelines.

Required Qualifications

1. Proven experience writing ELA decodable texts/passages (mandatory).
2. Strong background in phonics curriculum writing.
3. Experience working with California State Standards.
4. Familiarity with early literacy frameworks and structured literacy approaches.
5. Ability to write age-appropriate, engaging content for Grades K–4.
6. Excellent command of English language mechanics and pedagogy.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with structured literacy programs (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Science of Reading).
2. Prior work with educational publishers or EdTech companies.
3. Experience developing student-facing and teacher-support materials.
