The Opportunity

As Transcend's Communications Manager, you'll be an individual contributor designing and implementing Transcend's communication efforts (storytelling, branding, media relations, conferences, video, and other media). You will work closely with our Digital Marketing Manager, the Managing Director, External Affairs, the broader Transcend team, and external partners to capture, coordinate, and amplify voices, examples, and insights across our work. This role reports to the Managing Director, External Affairs and sits on Transcend's Network team. It plays a mission-critical role in ensuring that practitioners across the country can access and act on the resources Transcend builds ("democratizing design") and in inspiring K-12 leaders to imagine more extraordinary, equitable ways of leading and innovating ("catalyzing systemic change"). You'll dig into:

Communications Strategy (20%)

  • Co-create, implement, and evolve Transcend's communications strategy, developing compelling content and partnering with the Digital Marketing Manager to share that content across various communication channels
  • Clearly segment and define your target audiences for evergreen, campaign, and project-specific content. Establish messaging objectives for each of these segments
  • Prioritize the most significant and appropriate media channels at every stage of the marketing funnel
  • Gain insights into potential risks and barriers, and take proactive steps to address them through strategic messaging and relationship-building efforts
  • In collaboration with the Digital Marketing Manager, manage Transcend's editorial calendar, ensuring the content we share with our priority audiences is relevant to when, how, and where they go for resources and aligning it with current events
  • Monitor relevant education trends, key players, opinions, and policy issues to design and implement communications and public affairs solutions that build greater awareness of and drive traffic to our services, tools, and resources
  • Lead the charge in building the Transcend brand and prioritizing high-leverage areas and conferences where our resources and stories can be shared

Communications Execution (55%): Storytelling, Internal and External Collaboration, and Project Management

  • Source, shape, develop, and edit written content focused on Transcend's services, resources, tools, and showcasing various stories related to our work
  • Coordinate the creation of digital, video, audio, social, graphical, and print content in support of our broader communications, marketing, biz dev, and development work
  • Project manage and effectively coordinate both internal and external team members to ensure the successful execution of communication campaigns
  • Working closely with the Digital Marketing Manager, external contractors, and other Transcend teammates, create cohesive, continuous storylines and content themes for the editorial calendar across a variety of formats and channels (newsletter, social media, video, blogs, case studies, events, earned media)
  • Ensure consistent and high-quality style, voice, brand, and messaging standards across content and production of all public-facing communications and visuals
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners to amplify each other's work and / or co-create content and resources

Media & Public Relations (25%)

  • Manage media relations and develop relationships with media members, key stakeholders, and community leaders to grow Transcend's visibility both nationally and in key geographies
  • Develop key messages, talking points, and press releases to support team members' media appearances and manage our reputation
  • Drive Transcend's brand reputation and awareness in pursuit of making Transcend the "first phone call" for anyone who plans to speak or write about innovation in education, equity, the science of learning, or other issues related to school redesign and community-driven innovation
