The Supply Buyer is a strategic role within the overall supply chain organization. The role serves as the chief gatekeeper to success in our operation. This person will be responsible for the procurement of books and media; building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with our suppliers and evaluating future/potential suppliers for future growth.

You’ll need excellent organizational skills, an insatiable curiosity to improve process, supply KPI’s and information and confidence to present to senior leaders both internally and externally.

Key objectives will be to meet/exceed traditional supply chain goals surrounding inventory quality/turns, etc while adding value to the company financially by optimizing our procurement portfolio.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prospect, manage, and close deals for new supply ensuring a balanced sales funnel
  • Grow supply from existing suppliers while building relationships and selling solutions to maximize partnerships
  • Plan and execute procurement of supply from regional/national/global suppliers
  • Understand market of available supply and forecast volume, cost and quality anticipating the needs of the business
  • Drive cost savings initiatives and negotiations to achieve set targets within the budget/forecast planning process
  • Define a strategy to improve quality through Supplier relationship evaluation
  • Manage weekly spend by providing a cost analysis per supplier, per facility
  • Coordinate inventory planning, replenishment, and quality of supply volume in conjunction with our National Account Managers & Processing Center Leadership teams
  • Provide excellent service, follow-through, and execution
  • Complete special projects and assignments as requested

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Minimum of 3 years Supply Chain (planning & procurement) experience
  • Minimum of 3 years Sales experience
  • Proficient in computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce.com or a similar CRM
  • Knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain concepts and application
  • Knowledge of sales cycle and funnel management
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills
  • Critical thinking and effective negotiation skills for closing deals and finding win-win solutions
  • Confident communicator with excellent verbal and written skills
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently under pressure and react quickly to changing priorities

Travel

25% - 50% travel based on source of demand

This is a remote, work-from-home position. Must be a resident of Illinois.
