What you will do!
This position resides on the Administrative Support Team within the Oregon School for the Deaf. The Administrative Support Team is made up of 5 staff working together to support the operation of the school. The team communicates and supports each other in every area. We have weekly clerical team meetings to discuss upcoming activities or meetings. The team is fun to work with and has a great sense of humor, making coming in to work even more pleasant.
The major purpose of this job is to provide interpreting service for our staff and students, especially for IEP (Individualized Education Program) and other meetings or trainings. Some IEPs will be occurring through zoom. The interpreting part of the job will be limited to 4 hours a day. The other major part of this job would be to complete required state data collections as well as do test assessment with our students.
Interpreting for IEPs can get tense and challenging at times which can make it exciting. Doing the test assessments provide us with valuable data needed to work with students on areas to improve which can be a rewarding experience. There are also opportunities for fun volunteering experiences with different activities such as the Nightmare Factory.
Your day could consist of the following:
Interpret IEP/Eligibility meetings, committee meetings and trainings for OSD Staff and/or students as well as other venues both online and in person across the state of Oregon.
Interpret for administrators in high level meetings with state agencies, legislators, Board of Trustees, and Educational Service Districts.
Provide professional delivery of interpreting services including the reporting to assignments on time and adhering to the interpreters’ code of professional conduct and standards of practice.
Set up computer tests, schedule and administrate assessments.
Train staff to proctor assessments and use assessment/IEP/PBIS/student information systems related software and data.
Perform data calculations to provide meaningful, usable data reports.
Provide data support for internal/external partners and collecting data.

Minimum Qualifications (Need to have):
Three years of secretarial or administrative support experience that includes coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis; OR

An associate degree in general office occupations and two years of secretarial or administrative support experience that includes coordinating office procedures, preparing narrative and statistical reports, and administrative data collection and analysis; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications (Need to have):
Level 4 American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) required- Description of ASLPI levels can be found at

Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) 3.5 required, per
OAR 581-015-2035
Fingerprint Based Background Check - Applicants will be subject to a finger-print based criminal history check including driving record. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.

Proficiency in operating a variety of software and hardware including excel and database programs.
Experience creating, collecting and disseminating data, information, reports, and creating data formats.
Experience with school-related databases and adhering to confidentiality practices.
Experience and knowledge of working with K-12 students.
Experience in providing professional delivery of interpreting services, adhering to the interpreters code of professional conduct and standards of practice.

Mandatory Working Conditions and Working/Hiring Considerations:
Works with active deaf and hard-of-hearing children throughout the day. May be required to supervise students during special activities. May work with students who have severe emotional or behavioral problems with whom physical restraint techniques may need to be used. May be exposed to communicable diseases.

Salary Range: The range listed is the non-PERS salary range. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS.
