Job Description:

Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 50 year old multi-service not-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in the Bronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance education and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 families annually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income families, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens. KHCC helps participants overcome adversity and develop the skills they need to build bright futures.

The SONYC Tween Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the department team in maintaining high standards in the delivery of quality services to community youth/middle school students during program hours. The Tween Program is the middle school component of our mainsite Teen Program, primarily funded by SONYC/DYCD. It has later hours and a longer daily schedule than most traditional SONYC programs.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of “Tween” programming, including recruitment, registration, curriculum development, parent engagement, administrative tracking, and supervision of daily activities
  • Assist Teen Program Director and the Operations team with daily administrative responsibilities and contract management/compliance
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies and schools that consistently send youth to use our tween and teen services;
  • Coordinate pick-ups at local schools both walking and driving (as needed)
  • Engage, build relationships with, and provide appropriate behavior management and supervision for youth via daily program activities in programs for tweens and teens
  • Provide task supervision of group assistants and volunteers/interns who work in the program
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans for specialty activities such as cooking, poetry, photography, etc.
  • Provide oversight and supervision for general activity areas, including gym/recreation, check-in/snack, dinner, etc.
  • Collaborate with the wider Teen Center team in implementing youth centered trips and events.
  • Support the middle school group in the mainsite’s Summer Day Camp during July and August.
  • Attend weekly all staff meetings, orientation, and training as scheduled
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor/s.

 

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; handle, or feel; talk, hear, smell or taste. On rare occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
