SUMMARY:
The Manager of Photography, under direction, plans, manages, and develops photography projects that support and increase efforts to fulfill the mission of the Office of Marketing and Communications and the university. Projects include shooting and editing professional-level studio, event, portrait and marketing photographs. The Manager of Photography provides advanced technical photography skills, maintains equipment and manages the file archival process. The individual also manages staff and ensures that all work meets university standards and adheres to the official branding guidelines established by the university.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages staff photographers, student workers, graduate assistants, and external contractors, providing guidance and review of their work to ensure that it adheres to university standards
- Plans and facilitates studio and field photography shoots
- Shoots, edits, and manipulates high-quality photographs for university marketing collateral, publications, reports, public relations pieces, and news stories
- Edits photographs, including those submitted by individuals outside of Marketing and Communications, retaining content while enhancing quality
- Assists with cameral operation and setup, lighting units, and other field and studio equipment
- Stays up to date on and maintains a working knowledge of current software such as Lightroom, Photoshop and other photo-related software
- Maintains photography archives and retrieves photos upon request for university and department use
- Helps oversee equipment security, operation, upgrades and maintenance
- Balances creative requirements with schedules, budgets and resource limitations
- Experiments with new photography styles to keep up with modern visual trends and expectations
- Meets postproduction goals and deadlines
- Utilizes Teamwork, a cloud-based project management system, to track project status and communication
- Cultivates positive working relationships with co-workers and campus partners and maintains customer satisfaction

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in photography or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Minimum two years professional photography or related experience
- Proficiency in camera operation, editing, lighting and archiving
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
- Proven ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines
- Detail oriented
- Ability to:
- Multitask and work cooperatively and professionally with others in a fast-paced environment to ensure timely completion of projects
- Work within a project management system and meet deadlines
- Work beyond regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
- Travel as needed
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: None
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and exert moderate force
- Other Requirements: Portfolio required
PREFERRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in related field
- Four or more years of position-related professional experience
- Experience in a higher education setting
- Experience working in the Teamwork project management system or a similar system
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
- Hires, trains, and supervises student workers, graduate assistants, staff, and support staff
