A successful candidate for this position will possess excellent creativity and originality of design. The candidate will primarily be responsible for designing, illustrating and preparing artwork for print, print to rout and 3D décor items. These may include event signage, large format backdrops, or event décor elements. The candidate will also be responsible for the creation of working diagrams for their projects. The candidate should possess hands-on skills including crafts and painting skills, such as faux finishing or graffiti. The candidate is also responsible for the preparation of printing proofs for their artwork and may assist in print production.
This position requires work on-site at event setups occasionally, which may take place over weekends and or at night. This position may also occasionally require travel to other cities for event setups, which sometimes take place over several days.
Must be a team player, and mentally and physically robust
Must have own daily transport.
Must love dogs as there are several in the office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
- Liaise with sales, art team, printshop and woodshop and in accordance with the client’s brief, produce illustrations, designs and diagrams and prepare their designs for production.
- Liaise with internal and external printshops on a regular basis to ensure that print files are correctly packaged, deadlines are met, and production of their designs meets the highest possible standard
- Liaise with internal and external production entities to ensure that deadlines are met and production of their designs meets the highest possible standard
- Create décor build diagrams and instructions
- Assist with occasional craft projects, for example, graffiti painting, paper sculpture, faux finishing
- Decal application (in house and on site)
- Assist with woodshop build guides occasionally
- Assist with floorplans occasionally
- Assist on event setups occasionally
- Prepare artwork for Social Media
- Everyday admin tasks such as time logging and keeping studio environment pleasant
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

COMPETENCIES:
A successful candidate should have the following:
- Graphic Design, Event Decor Design or Theatrical Design degree/diploma (3-year) and at least one year of relevant design experience
- A strong portfolio of graphic and 3D design, layout, and illustration
- Competence in the following design software: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, 3D software (e.g. SketchUp / CAD / Vectorworks). Rendering software (e.g. Vray / Enscape ).
- Familiarity with print preparation processes
- Understanding of CNC router and basic woodshop processes
- An eye for good aesthetics and familiarity with current design trends.
- Attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines
- Pleasant, positive, empathetic disposition
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3-year degree or diploma in Graphic Design or Theatrical Design. One year of experience in a graphic, scenic or event design studio.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a good knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. Familiarity with 3D and rendering software (e.g. SketchUp, CAD, Vectorworks, Blender, V-Ray) In addition, familiarity with MS Office products in everyday use.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit at a computer for long hours, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to be on their feet for long periods of time, use basic tools such as trimming knives, staplers and screwdrivers, climb ladders or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Office environment is high-energy and very fast paced. It is both professional and casual.
Love of dogs is a must as we have several that occupy the office daily.
