The Web Manager supports the development, maintenance, and optimization of the University’s website and digital platforms. This role ensures web content is accurate, compelling, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals while enhancing the user experience., Reporting to the Web Director, the Web Manager collaborates closely with others in the Marketing and Communications division, external vendors, IT, and campus partners including both academic and administrative units. The role involves managing website projects, implementing web updates, troubleshooting issues, and supporting a strong digital experience for all stakeholders, primarily prospective students.
Responsibilities
- Manage and update web content across Butler’s digital properties, including butler.edu, stories.butler.edu, and majors.butler.edu. Ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to brand and accessibility standards.
- Serve as a web expert within the Marketing and Communications division, collaborating with designers, content creators, and strategists on the team to ensure Butler’s brand and key messages are effectively expressed online. Provide guidance on structuring content, layout, multimedia usage, and digital best practices to create a cohesive and engaging web presence.
- Support CMS users across campus, assisting with content updates, training, and troubleshooting as needed. Lead the day-to-day management of the Butler website ticketing system, serving as the primary point of contact for campus partners requesting web support and assistance.
- Lead special web projects, including new site builds, content overhauls, and strategic digital initiatives. Manage timelines, collaborate with campus stakeholders, and ensure projects align with Butler’s brand, user experience best practices, and institutional goals.
- Optimize site structure and navigation to enhance usability and ensure a seamless experience for prospective students and other audiences.
- Assist in developing and executing SEO strategies to improve website visibility, including keyword research, content optimization, and tracking performance to support the digital marketing efforts and drive traffic.
- Ensure the website complies with best practices for accessibility (WCAG compliance), security, and mobile responsiveness.
- Monitor website performance using tools like Google Analytics, and provide insights to improve user experience and engagement.
- Stay current with emerging web technologies, trends, and higher education digital best practices, recommending enhancements to keep Butler’s digital presence competitive and user friendly.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in a web content management or digital marketing role
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, web design, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency with content management systems (CMS), preferably WordPress.
- Solid writing, editing, and proofreading skills tailored for digital platforms, with the ability to adapt and repurpose existing content for web and other digital formats.
- Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and UX/UI best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot website issues effectively.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and content creators.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior higher education marketing and/or web experience
- Solid understanding of SEO best practices, including structuring content for search visibility and optimizing metadata.
- Experience with graphic design and multimedia tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma) to create/edit digital assets.
- Strong grasp of web accessibility standards (WCAG compliance) and mobile-first design.
