The Role
- Zeem seeks a Director, Policy & Regulatory Affairs to lead the development, strategy, and execution of our regulatory affairs and infrastructure incentive capture programs. The position will provide expert counsel to executive leadership on federal and state regulatory and policy developments. In addition, the Director will lead a team of analysts responsible for sourcing and securing federal, state, and utility grants/incentives for Zeem’s EV charging infrastructure, as well as support our customers in securing grants that enable them to electrify their fleets.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for Zeem with policymakers, regulators, and agencies, including state public utility commissions, independent system operators, energy commissions.
- Engage elected officials at the local, state, and federal level to educate and provide perspective on the benefits of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
- Participate in evolving electric vehicle legislation/regulation by providing commentary to utility rate cases and regulatory proceedings related to electric vehicle charging and rate design, serving as an expert witness as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with external funding agencies and manage Zeem’s electric vehicle infrastructure funding applications throughout the process.
- Manage the regulatory team’s research and analysis surrounding current and pending legislation, grants, and incentives that could benefit Zeem.
- Collaborate with internal colleagues throughout the project development process by working with real estate and project development teams to identify locations that provide the highest returns.
- Manage the day-to-day responsibilities and overall career development of a team of Policy & Regulatory Affairs professionals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in government, business, pre-law, economics, marketing, communications, environmental science, or equivalent, with graduate degree in policy, government, or law a plus.
- Minimum 10 of years’ experience in a corporate, public agency, law firm, or consultancy, providing energy policy, government affairs, and/or business development expertise related to infrastructure, utilities, electric vehicle charging or renewables (solar/wind).
- Experience with state electricity policy, programs, and incentives and/or interacting with utilities, public utility commissions, and government agencies.
- Expansive network of connections throughout the energy/utilities/EV space across legislative, regulatory, utility, and advocacy fields.
- Fundamental understanding of electric vehicle charging infrastructure landscape (technologies, participants, active geographies).
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with an innate ability to influence others.
Location
- The position will be located in our El Segundo (Los Angeles), CA headquarters
- Travel up to 50% required
The annual compensation estimate for this role is within the range of $135,000 - $185,000, plus the possibility of additional short-term incentive compensation and equity for exceptionally well-qualified candidates. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, business needs, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
