Job Description:

The VP of Accounting is responsible for providing leadership that will enable the Accounting department to deliver exceptional service to our members. This will be accomplished through properly applying GAAP principles to balance the Credit Union’s financial statements, preparing financial reports, maintaining accounts payable, posting transactions, and performing account reconciliations in an accurate and timely manner. Additionally they must ensure compliance with all policies and regulations. They will deliver outstanding service to teammates by supporting the vision of the Credit Union.

Review and recommend new methods and procedures to ensure the delivery of top quality service to members

Drive operational efficiencies through process improvements

Assure consistency with compliance to existing policies and regulations

Provides the team with required training and resources

Actively participate in strategic planning activities by proactively driving new strategies to anticipate and plan for future Credit Union and member needs, member/product needs, and ensure all staff understands the overall vision in regards to the strategic goals.

Participate as an active member of the Credit Union leadership team

Directly supervises Accounting Department, Audit, and Compliance

Role Specific Duties and Responsibilities*

Prepare Account Reconciliations

Manage laddered CD portfolio within Investment Policy Guidelines

Manage Available for Sale Portfolio within Investment Policy Guidelines

Monitor prepayments securities for yield sensitivity

Create a consolidated monthly report of all loans in non-accrual status to ensure correct reporting on regulatory reports

Prepare monthly Board reports

Perform monthly ALM analyses to monitor IRR

Preparing the annual budget

Prepare 5300 reports

All other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

Advanced knowledge of the Credit Union movement and accounting practices

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required

Five years of accounting experience within a Credit Union or related financial

Five years of progressive increasing responsibility within a Credit Union or related financial

Masters level financial institution training a plus (CUNA Management School, CUES Schools, etc.)

Strong mathematical reasoning skills

Solid communication skills in both oral and written disciplines

Excellent attention to detail

A desire to make a difference in our member’s lives

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit and use hands to operate a computer, telephone, calculator, and other pieces of office equipment

There are frequent requirements to speak and listen

There is occasionally a need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Specific vision abilities required by this role include the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is moderate

Occasionally work related travel may be required

Pay: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
