Job Description:

This position is assigned to the Office of Unified Communications (OUC), Office of the Chief of Professional Standards and Development Division. The incumbent in this position will serve as a Telecommunications Transcriptionist and perform administrative and 911 emergency response program support work, such as transcribing, research, analysis, production, correspondence control, and communication.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Telecommunications Transcriptionist will transcribe, interpret and prepare responses to correspondence in the OUC (including investigations and FOlA requests). The incumbent will be responsible for the research and reproduction of audio tapes and printed records for investigations (both internal and external) as well as FOIA requests from the media. other DC Government Agencies, as well as Federal Government Agencies and neighboring municipalities.

As a transcriptionist, he/she will comply with specific standards that apply to the field of emergency response records, in addition to the legal and ethical requirements involved with confidentiality and give testimony in judicial and administrative hearings concerning the authentication of transcribed materials. When directed by the Transcription Manager, the incumbent will plan and accomplish special projects and use standard approaches to perform a variety of duties related to special projects involving administrative or 91 l emergency response support issues.

Qualification & Experience

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be credible, applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level.

The work is performed in an office setting.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by NAGE Local R3-07 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee (dues) through a direct payroll deduction.

District residents who received a high school diploma from the District of Columbia Public Schools or a District public charter school or received a GED or its equivalent from the District of Columbia will receive priority consideration for this entry-level position. Position Designation: This position has been designated as security sensitive therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations. Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable.

Residency Preference: Applicants claiming "Residency Preference” will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of seven (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
