Comcast’s Technology, Connect (TPX) organization brings the world of technology engineering to the field, designing/engineering and building networks that traverse the country delivering broadband services, video voice and data to the communities we serve.The team also supports our evolving network architecture, including next-generation consumer systems and technologies, infrastructure and engineering, network integration and management tools, and technical standards.

Intern Job Description

The Core, Metro, Enterprise, and Datacenter Networks at Comcast are the conduit through which all of our products flow. The largest destination of internet traffic, the Comcast network infrastructure is complex, elegant, and always evolving. Interns in Network Engineering will get exposure to a wide array of networking disciplines, from test and certification to capacity management and planning, to configuration and troubleshooting. We will cover routing, switching and optical disciplines. If you’re interested in being at the forefront of networking technology, there is no other place to get as wide and as deep exposure to what is happening in modern networking than in this organization.

Who will the intern work with?

The team is split up into two core disciplines:

Network DevOps: Responsible for the full life-cycle of the network, these groups make short, medium and long term decisions around technology, platform selection, go to market strategy, tooling, test, integration, and operations. These groups work in smaller teams responsible for different parts of the network, with a horizontal governance and architecture practice that unites all aspects of the network, from the Wi-Fi in the company office to the 100Terabit backbone together, to unit roadmaps and align technologies across the different lanes.

Incident Management: Responsible for identifying network issue, initial triage and escalation to Network DevOps members for more detailed troubleshooting and remediation. This group is the front line for network availability and up time across all our core teams.

Job Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 

  • Assist with lab test and certification tasks.
  • Sit in on design discussions and research technologies that might be employed in our production network.
  • Co-Pilot network change activities
  • Develop automation and tooling to help engineers make more powerful assessments about how the network is performing.
     

Preferred Skills
 

  • Preferred Majors: Network Engineering, Programming, Software Development, Computer Science
  • Curiosity, interest in networking, cloud, and the Internet
  • Lab experience using control groups vs test groups
  • Some coding experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Not afraid to ask questions
  • A desire to seriously explore a career in large scale IP networking and network automation.
     

Minimum Qualifications And Eligibility Requirements
 

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from a United States-based college or university
  • Rising Junior or Rising Senior with an anticipated graduation date of December 2024, Spring 2025, December 2025 or Spring 2026.
  • Returning to degree-program (for at least a semester) after the completion of the summer internship
  • Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs
  • Available to work 40 hours per week over the course of the summer program
  • Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting. Internship roles will be office-based with no virtual offerings.
  • Recommended GPA: 3.0 (candidates will be evaluated on overall skills, education, and experience)

Base Pay: $32.00
