Who are we?

With roots that date back to 1939, Mills is a third-generation family-owned business that was founded as a recording studio. We advise, design, install and service technology systems for homes and businesses. The systems we provide include audio and music systems; televisions, presentation systems and media rooms; data and Wi-Fi; lighting systems; motorized shades; and the means to control all this technology – plus a whole lot more! These systems may be installed in homes, condos, and businesses in the greater Chicago area and beyond.

Mills is known throughout Chicago for our unrelenting commitment to customer service. Many of our new clients are family and friends of our existing ones. At Mills, our goal is to be our clients’ trusted technology advisors. Because of this, we pride ourselves on being good listeners and recommending what’s best for our clients.

However, much of our work is on active construction sites. Our Installation Technicians must be eager and willing to work in dusty/dirty environments (including attics, crawl spaces, etc.) in all sorts of weather conditions.

Your typical day might look something like this:

  • During construction or renovation, running new low voltage wire, installing backboxes, installing speakers, prepping for installation
  • In a finished (or near-finished) home, installing a new 4K TV and surround system in a client’s Family Room, or perhaps a video projector in the Media Room, or motorized shades in the Dining Room
  • Working collaboratively with your fellow technicians, and communicating with a Project Manager on progress
  • Ensuring a successful day by preparing the necessary tools, materials and equipment for the day or days ahead

You’ll typically be working with other Mills technicians. . As a Senior Installation Technician, you’ll leverage your experience to prioritize activities and help other technicians develop their installation skills. In this role, you will be provided with a company van. Some days you might drive directly to and from a jobsite. Other days, you will start and end your day at the Mills office, collecting tools and materials for the day. Some days will be a combination of the two.

What should you bring to the table?

  • At least 3 years of experience in home technology integration and installation. This includes but is not limited to pulling and terminating low voltage cable; installation of speakers, televisions, motorized shades, and other technology systems; and proper techniques for constructing audio visual and data racks. Construction experience is a big plus.

  • Comfortable working with power tools.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working on a ladder.
  • A high level of emotional intelligence.
