ABOUT URBAN ARTS: Urban Arts is a national nonprofit that teaches digital game design as a pathway to college and career. We offer free classes for students and professional development for teachers, opening doors in STEM and the arts for young people from underrepresented communities.

The Opportunity: We are building a talent pool of passionate adjunct game design educators to work with students in-person on a part-time, contract basis. You will help students transform into game creators, guiding them through the full creative and technical process while using cutting-edge tools and proven curriculum. These positions offer the chance to make a meaningful impact in students’ lives while working flexibly as opportunities arise.We accept applications on a rolling basis and maintain an active talent pool for current and future opportunities. Role OverviewOn a contractor basis, these educators work directly with middle and high school students in-person within various settings (in-school, after-school, and summer programs) to deliver Urban Arts' game design curriculum. You will guide students through the creative and technical process of designing, developing, and publishing their own digital games while building critical 21st-century skills. Educators should have demonstrated previous teaching experience teaching in youth-centered spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Facilitation

  1. Deliver Urban Arts’ game design curriculum (platforms could include Godot, Unity, Minecraft for Education, or others)
  2. We prioritize strong educators and will train you on our tools and proven curriculum through paid professional development
  3. Facilitate student-centered learning experiences that combine creative expression with technical skill development
  4. Make complex technical concepts accessible, engaging, and fun

Student Support & Mentorship

  1. Guide students through complete game projects from initial concept to publication
  2. Create an inclusive, supportive learning environment that encourages risk-taking and creative growth
  3. Assess student work and provide constructive feedback on both creative and technical elements
  4. Adapt teaching approaches to meet diverse student needs and learning styles

Collaboration & Growth

  1. Work closely with Urban Arts staff and partner schools/organizations
  2. Participate in professional development and curriculum training sessions

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, preferably in education, game design, or related field
  2. Experience teaching, mentoring, or working with youth (middle or high school age)
  3. Experience in game development tools, or willingness and capacity to learn quickly
  4. Passion for equity in education and working with underrepresented students
  5. Strong communication and classroom management skills
  6. Ability to make complex technical concepts accessible and engaging
  7. Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic learning environments

Preferred:

  1. Teaching certification or formal education training
  2. Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) a bonus!
  3. Background in arts or STEM education

Time Commitment

Positions vary based on program needs and may include:

  1. After-school programs (typically 2-4 hours per session, 1-3 days per week)
  2. In-school residencies (during school hours)
  3. Summer intensive programs (full days for 1-6 weeks)
  4. Weekend workshops or events (occasional)

Compensation is structured as a per-residency contract (similar to adjunct faculty), which includes teaching, preparation, assessment, and student feedback.

Positions vary based on program needs and may include:

After-School Programs

Example: Mondays & Wednesdays, 3-6pm for 12 weeks

In-School Residencies

During school hours, 1-3 days per week for 8-12 weeks

Summer Intensive Programs

Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm for 6 weeks in July/August

Weekend Workshops

Occasional opportunities for special events
