Job Description:


The primary function of this position is to ensure the content presented on VCLA’s website, social media, and email/marketing platforms is timely, accurate, appropriate, and adheres to site design and VCLA brand standards. Under broad supervision of the Executive Director (ED), the Project Specialist is responsible for drafting and posting content on the VCLA website and social media platforms, incorporating edits from the ED and/or designated Board members/volunteers. The Project Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining and updating databases within the website, software platforms utilized by VCLA, and supporting the ED in a variety of assigned tasks.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The person in this position will be proactive in providing content that increases visits (clicks) and interaction with the sites and the VCLA community at large. Actively soliciting content for the website and social media platforms such as alumni news and marketing events and posting such information in a current, compelling, and visually attractive manner.

Carrying out this responsibility will require excellent writing skills, including original composition, editing and layout. Content will also be provided by the Executive Director and Board members/volunteers and editing and formatting to ensure compliance with policies and agency style guidelines will be necessary.

Other duties include:

• Monitoring, on a daily basis, content that is posted to agency social media sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

• Monitor links included on the VCLA website, ensuring that they are accurate, appropriate, and timely. Recommend adding links that may help advance VCLAs internet visibility.

• Monitor use of confidential sections of the website, if any. Ensure that all content is accurate, appropriate, and timely. Encourage use by relevant parties such as Board members and alumni.

• Propose ideas and participate in discussions about building and improving VCLA’s online presence.

• Represent VCLA via email and over the phone to speakers, sponsors, Board members, alumni, and other community partners, to assist in planning of VCLA events, and to keep the VCLA Alumni Directory and email platforms up-to-date with current contact information.

• Assist the ED in logistical preparations for cohort sessions, planned events, and Board meetings.

• Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

I. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma is required. 2-4 years of college coursework, in marketing, design, or communications is strongly desired

• Demonstrated excellent organizational, verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills 1 to 3 years’ experience managing website (WordPress preferred) and new media content

• Basic knowledge of HTML & CSS

• Some experience with light graphic design and editing. This includes knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

• Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) with ability to learn new software applications. Experience with Google platform, including designing and maintaining Sheets and Forms

• Experience with Constant Contact, including email design and contact editing

• Experience with and passionate about Web and Social Media Marketing Strategies

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Board members, alumni and volunteers

• Demonstrate ability and desire to learn additional skills and programs related to marketing and various communication platforms
