DEPARTMENT: Development Department

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

HOURS: 40/week
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Local travel 25% - 30% of total work time

REPORTS TO: Chief Development Officer

Position Summary
As the Marketing and Communications Manager you are the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana (BBBSKY) Storyteller. You will utilize creative writing, journalism, photography, videography, and content development skills to create powerful and compelling stories that communicate the impact of our mission and move people to action by serving as a volunteer, an advocate, or a donor to BBBSKY. As a key member of the Development team, you will be instrumental in driving the “voice” of the organization to grow BBBSKY’s reputation as a leader in youth mentoring, racial justice, equity, and inclusion – internally and externally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uncover & create compelling, visual stories for BBBSKY’s traditional and digital media channels, waitlist events, match activities, and special events, etc., that communicate the impact of BBBSKY’s programs and move targeted audiences to action. Keeps up with the latest trends and technology to find innovative ways to connect our program with the target audience. Create and implement all advertising content and social media content.
  • Work with the community outreach team and the Events/PR manager to operate as one unit. All external and internal communication needs and marketing materials are in sync and branded with one voice.
  • Become the “voice” of BBBSKY’s social media channels.
  • Lead and direct the current marketing plan – It Takes 2 across all communication lines for the agency.
  • Coach BBBSKY staff and stakeholders on how to share their story in their own voice, advising on how to develop & amplify compelling content. And organize photos and videos for agency use.
  • Act as lead copywriter for the organization by editing key materials to maintain a consistent BBBSKY “voice” and brand identity (website, newsletter, leave behind pieces, etc.)
  • Support the Program and Development staff in the creation of comprehensive campaign marketing collateral, including direct appeals, case statements, and impact reports.
  • Supervisor and maintain the BBBSKY Website (updates, content creation, calendar, etc.) and supports adaptation of content for the web. Utilize design and writing skills to take content produced by subject matter experts and apply it to the digital platforms using best practices.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of the agency’s e-newsletter. Including creating content, platform of the newsletter, design and branding.
  • Develop media calendars and drive initiatives on several high-priority projects at any given time.
  • Be an ambassador and recruiter for BBBSKY by reaching out to families through an increasing number of virtual and face-to-face activities in community, corporate, collegiate, and civic environments.
  • Growth opportunities: Develop, implement, and supervise an intern/volunteer content creation program.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Skills related to user experience, SEO, HTML, web accessibility, web analytics, CSS, and JavaScript, Qgive, Constant Contact, etc,
  • Goal-driven approach to work with a demonstrated ability to develop a rapport with individuals from diverse sectors.
  • Familiarity with multi-cultural engagement strategies to ensure an inclusive recruitment strategy of volunteers.
  • Demonstrated success in sales and project management. Effective planning, administrative and organizational skills.
  • Persuasive written, face-to-face, virtual, and public speaking verbal and marketing communication skills with proven bottom-line results.
  • Personable and engaging when representing the agency in community meetings and collaborations with volunteers and service providers.
  • Familiarity with standard office technology (MS Office suite & ZOOM), as well as the web and emerging electronic marketing trends.
  • Fluency with regional media resources. Ability to successfully work in a team environment.
  • Strong facilitator with the ability to form and lead teams of people. Successful people management experience with demonstrated ability to engage, motivate and mentor staff to achieve goals.
  • Combine thoroughness and attention to detail with big-picture, strategic vision .Excellent initiative, creativity, and “self-starter” attitude. Able to think-ahead.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to multitask in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Maintain the highest integrity while supporting the brand’s mission, as well as confidentiality of agency and donor information.
  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Education and Related Experience

Bachelor's Degree in English, public relations, marketing or related field, business, finance, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 2 years of successful marketing/communications, digital engagement, customer service, volunteer engagement or grassroots campaign experience preferred. Experience with local press and marketing material branding preferred. Direct experience working with or in a full -service advertising agency preferred. Additional experience with non-profits is highly desirable.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This is a routine office environment. Flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends to meet customer needs. Travel required to local communities, schools and neighborhoods. A vehicle, valid driver’s license, and minimum state required automobile insurance are required in this position.
