Job Description:

Liberty University Online Academy (LUOA) is an accredited K-12 online private Christian school that offers online curriculum and instruction to provide K-12 students with a world-class, Christ-centered education. The Content Developer (CD) will work under the direction of the Project Manager in the LUOA Curriculum Department and is responsible for development of curriculum content as well as assisting with content planning with focus on the CD’s respective subject area.

Under the direction of the project manager, the CD will plan and develop lessons, assessments, and assignments as well as implementing various educational strategies and methods for the curriculum including vertical and horizontal alignment. The CD must possess a contemporary knowledge of the respective subject area and be able to successfully produce quality academic curriculum in a digital format (learning management system, authoring software, etc) including ensuring correct spelling, grammar, and overall quality, as well as the curation of instructional media assets.

Each lesson and task are documented in detail in the project management software. Task details are updated daily including task statuses, documenting changes, cross-team communications in the system, and reviewing documents, tickets, and reports.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Authoring content in course development projects as a subject-area expert, including applying a contemporary knowledge of the subject area to writing lesson and assessment content, designing instructional strategies, and ensuring vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment
  2. Daily updating documentation in the project management system including task statuses, documenting changes, cross-team communications in the system, and reviewing documents, tickets, and reports
  3. Daily operate technology including a learning management system, content authoring platforms, and project management software
  4. Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  5. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Degree in education
  2. 3+ years teaching experience in respective subject area
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the respective subject area including experience with vertical and horizontal alignment
  4. M ust be proficient with Visual Basic (VBA) in Excel
  5. Teaching certifications in the subject area
  6. Comfortability with technology and the ability to learn new systems
  7. Detail orientation and the ability to provide accurate and up-to-date records on tasks and projects within a project management system
  8. Ability to make curricular improvements toward achieving quality and excellence in the curriculum
  9. Flexibility and the ability work under pressure with tight deadlines
  10. Reliable and diligent work ethic; professional written communication; ability to be punctual in correspondences and emails; ability to work under the direction of others


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Advanced degree in education
  2. 4+ years teaching experience in the subject area
  3. Certification specializations related to the subject area; awareness of latest educational best practices and research
  4. Experience and comfortability developing digital curriculum, especially Canvas, Articulate 360, or similar learning platforms
  5. Experience working in a project management environment

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Hours

  1. Able to work remotely

  3. Work hours should be within 15–25 hours per week, though weekly hour may vary depending on the specific role and the amount of available work during busy/slow seasons
  4. This part-time position is project-based, so work agreements may be renewed in 6-month intervals or until the project has completed

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate. Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally. (Edit for duties performed outside office environment.)


Driving Requirements

Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
