Job Description:

ChampionX has an immediate position available for a Lead Microbiologist in our Asset Integrity RDE team within Production Chemical Technologies. The position is located in Sugar Land, Texas. ChampionX production solutions and services provide chemistry, technology, engineering support, and onsite expertise to improve outcomes for upstream oil and gas operations. We partner with customers to reduce risk, create value, and produce more energy more safely and more responsibly. As a result, the current role consists of providing solutions for microbial induced corrosion in the petroleum industry.

 

As a Lead Microbiologist, experience with biocides including field recommendations and applications is essential for the role. Examples of responsibilities may include laboratory studies, field recommendations and new product development related to oilfield corrosion. As a Lead Microbiologist, disciplinary skills in bioinformatics may be utilized to discover new solutions for microbial induced corrosion. In addition, the candidate may also work in partnership with global teams including sales, marketing, regulatory and supply chain to implement and execute commercial solutions for microbial induced corrosion. The ideal candidate is highly versatile, communicates effectively, and thrives in a collaborative environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead and/or uphold the safety initiatives and standards designated by the organization
  • Deliver solutions to customer challenges related to microbial induced corrosion
  • Perform technical reviews, provide product recommendations and potentially onsite field studies to challenges in the petroleum industry related with bacteria
  • Research new products by performing laboratory evaluations and/or reviewing results including quantitative polymerase chain reaction, next generation sequencing, film studies/bioreactors and other DNA based evaluations.
  • Engage with our sales teams and customers on technical challenges by hosting discussions, providing training and reviewing challenges regarding corrosion related to bacteria
  • Partner and collaborate with global teams including sales, marketing, regulatory and supply chain to implement and execute experimental or commercial solutions
  • Exchange of knowledge through mentorship with fellow team members

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in microbiology, chemical engineering, or related technical field with multiple years of experience in field recommendations and/or applications of biocides.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Role is deemed safety-sensitive and may be subject to employer or customer drug testing.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in field recommendations and application
  • Experience of laboratory evaluations related to bacteria
  • Experience in communicating with sales teams and customers
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
