Job Description:

Position Overview:

 

They are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead AI/ML Scientist to join their dynamic and innovative team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning models that address critical healthcare challenges. This is a leadership position, where you'll have the opportunity to work on impactful projects, guide junior scientists, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive the development of AI/ML solutions in a large-scale healthcare setting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the end-to-end development of AI/ML models, from conceptualization to deployment, to solve complex healthcare problems.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, clinicians, and business stakeholders to translate healthcare needs into AI/ML-driven solutions.
  • Apply advanced machine learning techniques (e.g., deep learning, natural language processing, reinforcement learning) to large datasets to drive insights and decision-making.
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and robustness of AI models by working closely with data engineering and software development teams.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest AI/ML research and industry trends, incorporating new techniques and methodologies to enhance Optum’s AI capabilities.
  • Mentor and lead a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Communicate complex technical ideas and results to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment with business goals.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science or related quantitative field and 5+ years of industry/academic experience in machine learning or a related field OR PhD in computer science or related quantitative field
  • Proven expertise in machine learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning) and experience with large-scale data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Proficiency in programming languages
  • Hands-on experience with healthcare datasets and understanding of healthcare industry challenges is highly preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
