Job Description:

The Climate Registry (TCR) seeks an outgoing and innovative Junior Software Developer with strong technical and communication skills to join a leading team in helping organizations combat climate change in North America and worldwide. The Junior Software Developer reports to the Senior Software Developer but also coordinates closely with other members of the Registry Services team and staff on programs, projects, and initiatives.

 

 

As an integral part of the Registry Services team, the position will play an integral role in designing, developing, and deploying mission-critical applications. Our team is small and versatile, and the Junior Software Developer will play a dynamic role that includes both management and execution duties. The development will involve the complete application stack: browser, client-side scripting, server-side scripting, and database. This is an exciting opportunity to advance professional skills, contribute effectively within a dynamic, agile team, and make a meaningful impact on climate change.

 

 

TCR is a non-profit organization formed by U.S. states and Canadian provinces and territories. TCR (1) offers reporting programs, tools, and resources to help organizations measure, report, verify, and reduce their carbon footprints; (2) consults nationally and internationally on all aspects of greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement, reporting, and verification; (3) provides a platform for showcasing sub-national climate leadership, such as at the annual UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP) and Climate Leadership Conference and Climate Awards; and (4) spearheads game-changing initiatives, such as the Net-Zero Portal. POSITION SUMMARY

 

 

Knowledge of - and hands-on technical experience with - modern software development is required, including:

 

 

  • NET with C#
  • Microsoft SQL
  • Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
  • Platform design and architecture
  • CSS
  • Visual Studio
  • JavaScript
  • Requirements gathering, analysis and documentation
  • Microsoft Report Builder
  • FileZilla or any FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application
  • Software Testing
  • WordPress
  • Hardware and Network skills a plus

 

 

Desired technical experience may include:

 

 

  • Microsoft Office – especially Excel
  • Microsoft Project
  • Windows Server administration
  • Microsoft MVC
  • NET Core
  • JQuery
  • Ajax
  • Bootstrap

Education and Work Experience

 

 

  • BS in computer science.
  • Experience working in teams.
  • Ideal candidate will have previous demonstrable work experience in application development using the skills listed above.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Help desk experience is a plus.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
  • Candidate must be proactive, curious, and creative.
  • Ability to learn business environmental standards quickly.
  • The candidate should be responsible, self-motivated, and organized.
  • Knowledge and experience in carbon accounting principles is preferred.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

 

  • Interface with management, Registry Services, and TCR members to communicate and resolve technical needs, issues, and updates.
  • Work with system users to gather and understand new and changing requirements.
  • Development of application designs and data architecture.
  • Development of new applications using .NET technologies.
  • Adding features to applications.
  • Overseeing QA, fixing bugs, and deployment of software updates.
  • Work with third-party providers to resolve issues and implement new business initiatives.
  • Create regular backups of the live site database.
  • Regularly backup client-submitted files and data.
  • SQL Queries and DB administration.

 

 

COMPENSATION

 

 

The Junior Software Developer position is based in the Los Angeles area. TCR offers excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth and a flexible work-from-home policy.
