The Employee Benefits Regional Leader (EB Regional Leader) is responsible for organic revenue growth, profitability, P&L growth and service delivery for the Employee Benefits practice of Alera Group West Region. The EB Regional Leader is a member of the regional and national EB leadership team(s). This role works closely with leaders of business units, functional segments, Alera Shared Services and National Centers Of Excellence. Responsibilities include the development of P&L in conjunction with organic growth, profitability, financial forecasting, and retention. This position drives the practice people strategy including engagement, retention, growth and managing structure to meet business needs. They will be responsible to create an aligned culture around consistent, sustained, and effective employee benefit operational policies and practices in support of short and long-term business plans – including operating and financial objectives for the region and the practice overall. The EB Regional Leader reports to the Managing Director of the West region with a dotted line reporting relationship to the National Employee Benefits Practice Leader. The EB Regional Leader will be supported through a team of direct and/or indirect reports that will be added in accordance with regional needs. Duties and Responsibilities: • Organic Growth: Drive profitable organic revenue growth through client retention and new business. Work closely with National Practice leadership to align priorities in order to reach financial and growth targets as set by the business line. • Sales: Work in partnership with the Regional Sales Leader to create positive collaboration and drive a robust cross sell process. • Client Experience: Build the team to lead the development and implementation of high-quality systems and procedures to benefit our colleagues and clients. Drive the development of new processes and systems and continually improve the way we do business to increase bottom line results and improve the overall client experience. • Operational Initiatives: Partner with other regional leaders to develop and implement strategies for EB operational efficiencies that support the organization around common goals, vision, and values. Work in conjunction with MD and MPs to develop a strategy and execution of the regional initiatives. • Integration: Take a leadership role in the integration of new Alera Group offices within the region. Provide a clear, consistent practice onboarding coordinated with the national onboarding process and central integration team to accelerate new office EB integration. • People: Support the attraction and acquisition of EB talent within Alera Group offices. Actively support development of internal talent through development programs designed to improve efficiencies and knowledge. Motivate and lead a high-performance team, providing mentoring and training as a cornerstone of career development. • Culture: Lead and promote the organization’s culture and colleague engagement initiatives that support a culture of collaboration. Including but not limited to participation in all regional, national colleague training, Impact Group participation and annual meetings. • Compliance: Ensure all regional EB operation activities comply with federal, states, and local laws in which the company operates and that the company is maintaining the highest ethical standards in business and personal relationships. • Strategy: As a member of the national executive advisory council, this position will help in the prioritization and execution of a National EB strategy for Alera Group. Stay current on competitive strategies and best practices within the industry. Identify emerging industry strategies via networking with external partners, research, and internal partnerships to ensure subject matter expertise and the ability to proactively respond to market changes. Key Performance Metrics • Hitting organic revenue targets for the region and the national practice • Direct contribution margins (controllable within the practice) • Recruiting; hiring and development of team • Execution and alignment with national EB practice Education Candidates will be required to have a bachelor’s degree in business or related disciplines such as finance, accounting, operations, marketing, or communications. Professional certifications important. Life and Health licenses required. Proficient in MS Office Suite, with strong Excel skills. Functional Experience Alera Group is looking for a strong business and operationally oriented professional who has 15+ years of experience in insurance benefit administration with a carrier, broker, or consulting firm. Successful candidates will have likely progressed through a variety of employee benefit functions including account management, business development, and client support. Industry Experience Strong knowledge of employee welfare plans, including regulatory requirements and designs for fully insured and self-insured medical plans. A sound understanding of current health insurance regulations as well as a basic understanding of the ongoing changes triggered by ACA. Experience in the insurance, financial services, and/or professional services industries is critical. Scope Candidates will bring a strong background in employee benefit operations management and be familiar with regional differences. U.S. Domestic travel of 25% will be expected (post pandemic). COMPENSATION The successful candidate will earn a base salary, attractive annual performance bonus. Salary starts at $170,000/yr. and annual bonus.
