Mill River Park Collaborative is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to transforming Mill River Park into a vibrant, educational, and recreational hub for the Stamford community. Committed to fostering environmental stewardship and community engagement, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Education Manager to lead the planning and execution of school field trips and other educational programs for the park.

 

Job Description:

As the Education Manager at Mill River Park Collaborative, you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing educational field trips, ensuring a safe, smooth, and enriching experience for students and teachers as well as community groups. This role involves collaboration with local schools, educators, and park staff to ensure a high-quality, impactful, and inclusive program delivery.

 

Responsibilities:

1. Logistics and Planning:

  • Coordinate all logistical aspects of field trips, including scheduling, space allocation, supply maintenance, evaluations, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of a toddler and caregiver-style series and other educational activities.

 

2. Community Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, educators, and community organizations.
  • Actively participate in community events to promote our programs as well as environmental and sustainability education initiatives.

 

3. Safety and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • Stay informed about local and state educational standards and ensure compliance.

 

4. Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with park staff, educators, and Docents to enhance the educational programs and overall park experience.
  • Work closely with the Director of Education and Sustainability and the Education Special Programs Coordinator to provide a strong, unified leadership to the Docent program.

 

5. Management:

  • Oversee our high school and college age Docents during the summer and be the point person for them twice a week during the school year.
  • Help hire, train, and manage seasonal educators.

 

6. Educational Program Development:

  • Collaborate with local schools to understand curriculum requirements and needs and work to adapt current programs to meet those needs.
  • Help refine our current field trip curriculum and develop new comprehensive educational programming.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in education, environmental science, or a related field.

• Proven experience in program coordination, preferably in an educational or experiential environmental setting.

• Strong proven organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

• Ability to think outside of the box, adapt quickly, and maintain organization and a positive attitude in a changing and sometimes fast-paced environment.

• Familiarity with the local educational community is a plus.

• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends occasionally as needed.

• Bi-lingual or experience with special needs students is a plus.

• Valid driver's license

• Experience with group teambuilding or portable challenge initiatives and SEL is a plus
