The Compositing Developer is responsible for developing tools and workflows in Nuke to hit the target visual style of the show. They will implement Nuke gizmos and plugins designed to allow artists to efficiently and effectively dial in sequence and shot creative notes. They will collaborate to deliver required compositing mattes, channels, data, etc to render as AOVs for lighting.

In addition, during the lighting production schedule, the Compositing Developer will support lighting, FX and DigiMatte teams with unique look development required per sequence that are compositing heavy, at the discretion of the VFX Supe / Head of Lighting.

Job Description


Responsibilities: “What would you say you do here?”

  1. Leads the technical creation of Nuke gizmos and tools required for the final look.
  2. Authors, maintains and improves show-specific compositing tools within Nuke for artists.
  3. Supports, advises, educates and mentors artists around proper compositing workflows.
  4. Advises on and supports show Nuke templates, standards and workflows.
  5. Creates and maintains documentation on workflows, tools, process and procedures for compositing aspects related to the show.
  6. Perform creative lighting development setup as required using lighting and compositing tools.
  7. Integrate show specific needs from Look Dev into Nuke to allow artists to achieve final look.
  8. Initiate, setup, organize and document show specific Nuke gizmos and tools required for the final look.
  9. Perform technical work in support of shot compositing using various production tools.
  10. Interprets the creative notes from the Director, Production Designer, VFX Sup and Head of Look and works with department supervisors, Production Software Nuke Developer, and leads to come up with technical solutions to achieve the desired look.
  11. Works with Production Software Nuke Developer to determine studio compositing needs. Continues to help maintain show gizmos that get promoted to studio gizmos. Aids in testing and planning major version releases and updates to tools as required.
  12. As needed, serve as the compositing point person in production and technical meetings and reviews.
  13. Maintains knowledge of industry-standard trends and technology in the prescribed area(s) of expertise while staying abreast of the current production workflows and tools.


Qualifications


Basic Qualifications: “What do I need to have in order to do this job?”

  1. 3+ years of Nuke experience. Proficient knowledge in compositing techniques and workflows.
  2. Capable of writing Nuke gizmos, plugins, nodes and associated GUIs.
  3. Ability to write python, BlinkScript or similar production programming languages.
  4. Extensive hands-on production experience with compositing tools and pipelines.
  5. Strong communication, collaboration and problem solving skills.

Desired Qualifications: “What can I offer?”

  1. C++ or similar production programming languages are a plus.
  2. Able to interpret artistic direction to execute a final look through compositing.
  3. Production experience in Lighting, DigiMatte or similar departments is a plus.
  4. Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a changing environment.
  5. Technically and creatively astute.

Fully Remote: This position has been designated as fully remote, meaning that the position is expected to contribute from a non-DreamWorks worksite, most commonly an employee’s residence.

Salary Range: $125,050 - $140,000
