Overview:
A large family-owned farming operation based in the Southern San Joaquin Valley is seeking a Director of Accounting and Finance. This position is responsible for managing the general accounting and finance functions of the Company and will provide information, primarily financial in nature, about all activities that will assist management, ownership, and other users in making educated economic decisions. The Director position requires effective leadership to maximize the return on financial assets by establishing and maintaining financial policies procedures, internal controls, and reporting systems to conform to US GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Practices).
Responsibilities include:
- Ensure policies, procedures (internal controls and segregation of duties), and systems are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.
- Establish and maintain controls that verify the integrity of the accounting system, processes, and data to enhance the company's value.
- Oversee activities of the Accounting Department for accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, audits, and budgets.
- Establish appropriate controls, processes as well as accurate and timely processing of:
- Activities of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
- Responsible for the accuracy and reporting for all bank funding service requirements.
- Activities associated with the General Ledger and preparation of financial statements and reporting for multiple entities.
- Ensure financial records are in compliance with company policies and GAAP. Review monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliation and other documents to ensure compliance.
- Prepare monthly financial binder for ownership.
- Prepare and manage annual review of combined financials of four companies.
- Supervise preparation for crop reporting by block. Close out crop accounting for each crop after harvest.
- Perform quarterly financial reporting to banks and other agencies as required.
- Resolve positive pay exceptions; provide supporting information and assist in cash tracking; perform detailed review of weekly check runs.
- Act as Plan Administrator of company 401K plan.
- Maintain and manage crop insurance, claims, and specialty insurance. Collaborate with Director of HR to analyze cost of workers compensation policies.
- Supervise property tax including fixed asset organization, Williamson Act Information, and 571 filings.
- Supervise reporting to several federal, state, and industry agencies; manage various government grants and industry programs.
- Act as Administrator of Famous ERP System and point of contact for network problems and administration.
- Manage and supervise various administrative functions with outside parties.
- Collaborate with Director of HR to analyze the cost of annual benefit renewals.
- Focus on continuous improvement and process enhancement.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related business degree.
- Five or more years of experience in leading and managing the accounting function in a medium to large farming company. Public accounting management experience accepted.
- Five or more years of experience managing automated and integrated accounting software systems.
- Leadership skills, ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and process oriented.
- High degree of open communication and collaboration with owners and management team through interactive decision making.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with external and internal customers. Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.
- Ability to analyze business performance and develop financial plans to meet objectives.
- Capable of interacting with executive level management on Company financial and non-financial initiatives.
