This position is located in the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy (OASP), in Washington, D.C.

Duties

The Chief Evaluation Office (CEO) is responsible for leading and directing the activities of the office and coordinating all evaluation activities in the Department, including developing and implementing the Department-wide Annual Evaluation Plan, directly initiating formal rigorous evaluations and collaborating with Departmental agencies to conduct evaluations; coordinating with other Departments, OMB, and the White House on evidence and evaluation issues, and maintaining the Department's evidence-based capacity and evaluation dissemination strategies. The incumbent reports to the career Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy. The incumbent must:

  • Lead the design and implementation of a Department-wide program of labor research and evaluation and promoting high standards for accessing and using data.
  • Represent the Department on evaluation issues with other Departments, the National Economic Council, Council of Economic Advisors, OMB and other agencies to promote and coordinate government-wide evaluation.
  • Maintain an evidence-based clearinghouse of labor-related research that meets high levels of academic and methodological rigor.
  • Institutionalize an evidence-based culture within the Department.
  • Develop an active program of communication and networking with labor research organizations and professionals in government, in the academic / non-profit sectors, in labor organizations and others.
  • Coordinate with DOL agencies, including the Performance Management Center, to incorporate evidence-based evaluations into Agency Management Plans and the Department's Strategic Plan.
  • Chair the DOL Scientific Integrity Council, comprised of representatives from each of the DOL subagencies and provide oversight of responses to allegations of compromised scientific integrity referred for an inquiry or investigation.
