Backend Developer (PostgreSQL Focused)

Location: Fully Remote

Type: 6 Month Contract to Hire

About the Role

We’re looking for a Backend Developer who genuinely knows PostgreSQL inside and out. This role is heavy on database work, not just “I write ORM queries and hope for the best.” You’ll be digging into stored procedures, refactoring legacy code, optimizing performance, and making old systems behave like they were built this decade. If you enjoy turning slow, messy backend systems into clean, efficient machines, this is your playground.

What You’ll Do

1. Design, write, and maintain complex PostgreSQL stored procedures, functions, and triggers
2. Refactor and modernize legacy backend code with an eye toward performance, stability, and maintainability
3. Analyze and optimize slow queries, indexes, and execution plans
4. Collaborate with frontend and product teams to translate business requirements into solid backend solutions
5. Improve database schemas and data models without breaking production (hero work)
6. Participate in code reviews and help raise the overall quality bar
7. Troubleshoot production issues and fix root causes, not just symptoms

What We’re Looking For

1. 3+ years of backend development experience
2. Deep, hands-on PostgreSQL expertise
3. Extensive experience writing and maintaining stored procedures and complex SQL
4. Proven success refactoring legacy systems and improving performance
5. Strong understanding of relational database design and normalization
6. Experience working in a fully remote, distributed team
7. Ability to work independently and communicate clearly without needing constant supervision
