As our Head Athletic Trainer, you will be responsible for the overall health and well-being of the players. You will play an essential role in providing medical care and rehabilitation services, as well as working with players to prevent injuries and maintain their overall fitness and performance. The Head Athletic Trainer works closely with coaching staff and the team’s medical professionals to ensure that players are healthy and ready to play.

Day-to-day

  • Treat chronic minor injuries and related ailments to maintain athletes’ performance.
  • Wrap ankles, fingers, or wrists of athletes in synthetic skin, protecting gauze, and adhesive tape to support muscles and ligaments.
  • Call Physicians for injured persons as required.
  • Render first aid to injured players such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning, and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing.
  • Prescribe routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.
  • Partner with coaching staff on regimens to prevent injuries from happening to players.
  • Consistently and effectively communicate with coaching staff and applicable parties to address injured players.
  • Provide supervision, support, and mentorship to the Assistant Athletic Trainer, which includes providing performance conversations, feedback and addressing any performance concerns.
  • Attend events where players are participating.

We’d Like To Hear From You If You

  • Hold a Master's degree in sports medicine, sports physical therapy, or a related field. Doctorate in Physical Therapy is preferred.
  • Are able to demonstrate plays and techniques on the court as well as lift weights and perform regimens in a weight room.
  • Are able to bend, stand, kneel for extended periods of time, and assist with the rehabilitation of injured athletes.
  • Possess a strong understanding of human anatomy for injury assessment and treatment.
  • Are skilled in taking vital signs, performing physical exams, and providing first aid.
  • Are able to remain calm and think quickly to solve problems during high-pressure situations, such as during an emergency injury.
  • Possess strong and effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Have knowledge of common basketball injuries, treatments, and preventions.
  • Are able to travel frequently and work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
